Car sounds great, not keen on the looks personally though. Particularly the front bumper vents look a bit naff.

I don't like the wheels, but I love the green which I'd definitely order if I can, I am sure other, nicer wheels will be available to choose.
Also despite the thieves having a go at my current car I think I'd still get one depending on what my living and working arrangements are like next year. I won't let the bds win because this is the nicest looking Audi I've seen for a while bar the R8

Even the wifes cactus has one of those. Are Audi taking the piss?

Totally fair enough ! But that doesn't make them remotely "mandatory".
Heated steering wheel wouldn't be mandatory for me because I'm. It a massive tart. hehe

Re the Merc does the C63 not come in 4 Matic guise? 500bhp is all fine in cars like this but not that exploitable on cold wet greasy British roads.

1,790kg & 450HP. Same power to weight as a 2005 V8 which is cheaper and sounds better. I would be expecting more for my £60k.

Pretty much par for the course like the F80 vs E92 M3 but the new turbo motors make lots more power all the way through the rev range up to 120hp more at a given rpm.

quite keen on these so have been looking forward to reviews. And I prefer reviews / views from authors or publications with some kind of expert status. but comes to something when Mr JWW is out with a video review before you guys produce an article and still photos.

Is the RS worth 15k more than the S?

I'm guessing if you're in the market for an RS4 Avant it''s a moot point. You're after the halo model, end of. I can't imagine many people go in to BMW and think "The 440i makes more sense than the M4".

I'm not saying the price difference is irrelevant, but the performance difference will be a deal maker for some.

4.1 to 60 in an Estate?

SWMBO would rather the Cayman S mind.....

I think it's a fairly relevant comparison personally. Both have turbocharged petrol engines, both offer a similar level of practicality (the Golf's boot is 100L bigger), and both are fairly rapid. Without it's main USP, and at twice the price, the Audi looks very expensive.

310bhp vs 450bhp....quite a difference.

But if you're saying just get a remapped Golf R, could you not just apply that logic and say "why not remap the RS4?"

The ultimate one-car garage for the family man.

(RS6 is too expensive and showy-offy).
The RS6 is bigger, so more legroom and boot space. Not sure how that is 'showy-offy'.

WHY DO YOU NEEDZ THE 450 POWAHS. THE 2.0 TDI DIESEL IS JUST AS GOOD. I OVERTOOK A A320 AIRBUS ON TAKEOFF IN IT. IT HAS MORE TORQUES AND DOES OVER 9000 MILES TO THE GALLON. YOU CAN GET ONE ON A LEASE FOR 15P A YEAR AND SPEND THE SAVINGS ON A HIGH YIELD INVESTMENT IN A CONGALESE DIAMOND MINE AND RETIRE WHEN YOU ARE 19. YOU DONT EVEN NEED AN ESTATE CAR. JUST TOW A SHOPPING TROLLEY BEHIND A SALOON WHICH HANDLES BETTER THAN A VEYRON ESPECIALLY ON NANGPOO WINTER TYRES AND 4 INCH STEEL RIM. YOU DON'T EVEN NEED QUATTRO. JUST USE OLD CARPET - ITS BETTER THAN ANY TRACTION CONTROLS.

that should cover all the inbound usual arguments. hehe

Why is it 174 with the limiter raised? Why can the Alfa do 190+ but not Mercedes/BMW/Audi. Never made sense to me, you can buy a S65 AMG for 180 grand with a 155 limited top speed! Why is it always the Germans that limit the top speeds!

Those wheels are fking awful. I feel a little nauseous just looking at them

Someone, somewhere, is proud of that design. Worrying.

I've had a B9 S4 from new and whilst I knew this was coming I didn't wait, because what I would be using the car for wouldn't require the extra oomph, not for the cost anyway. I have a weekend car for all that.

However, after the discussion of 'mandatory options' which is a term I'm not too comfortable with, I decided to spec an RS4 to the same standard as my S4, or close enough. The difference in price was £16k.

For me, not worth it.

this at £61k + options makes the RS3 look better value at £44k as it comes pretty well equipped.
on paper the performance looks similar
arguably a nicer engine in the RS3 also -> the 2.5L V5
how much smaller is the RS3 - would not be a huge amount in it.
4-wheel drive system is different I think.
