Mmmm, torque steer. driving

It's tragic they didn't put a properly powerful engine in the newer, RWD For4.
Ever driven one? We had a Twingo, which is the same thing. 90bhp was plenty!
Frankly the 65bhp version is more than plenty. In the wet it's downright dangerous. Chronic understeer followed by unpredictable snap oversteer. I parked a cabrio for-two on it's side up a tree after one such occasion. I don't imagine the new for-four to be any better.

The original for-four is not a bad car in any way, I had a 1.3 auto as a courtesy car in 2004 - it was a bit of a giggle and pretty practical- the lack of parcel shelf let it down though. Having plastic panel has it's advantages - you're never worried about where you parked it. I'd very seriously consider a Brabus one if I was doing less miles.

I've only ever seen one of these...
In my Alfa GTV TS at the time and just entering the westbound sliproad of J9 M27 at Fareham, I saw a spangly looking Smart in my mirror and it then passed me as I thought "he's a bit ambitious" little realising he had a lot more puff than the average Smart before watching as he belted down onto the motorway and 1-2-3 straight into the BMW lane seemingly without effort!
I never bothered trying to follow, just sat there in my fat underpowered pretend Alfa chuckling at the injustice of it all thumbup
They were supposed to be run on super unleaded to get the full 177bhp out of them - on normal petrol it was down to about 160 .

Even so they were under 1000kg so still pretty lively

We have one and developed over a few years. The standard exhaust manifold is a restriction so we have an aftermarket one on and with a specialist remap we have 224hp.
They were 174hp standard on super unleaded, the 177 was Ps figure
Ours has Rota wheels and a wilwood brake kit amongst some other tweeks. It is a giant killer on road and track
They combine German and Jap quality nicely

I've just got one, £1500.....probably the cheapest runner in the Country.

Wheels hold air but are slightly 20p'd.....a few marks on the bodywork and the pano roof blinds are sagging. Other than that it's lovely smile

186 mile drive home in it a few days ago....not a car for long distances with that suspension, but loads of fun. Already surprised a few unsuspecting bullies on the A1 smile

Hopefully will make my 5 mile commute to work a bit more fun!

Had mine for nearly 5 years, great fun car. Now just sitting in my garage, if anyone is interested, let me know.

I'd be interested in the Wheels if they are available.

Have some slightly 20p'd Monoblocks to trade smile

No thanks, I got rid of them for that reason! Softest wheels I've ever seen.

Makes the upcoming UP Gti look a bit tardy with that power to weight

There is no 65bhp version of the current Twingo/ForFour, are you talking about the original Smart ForTwo with a 62bhp engine, or the second generation one with 71bhp? If so they were both completely different cars to the Twingo/ForFour, other than engine location there are no similarities.

Almost every review of the Twingo has complained that it's much less fun to drive than the rear engine/RWD might suggest as it's tuned for progressive understeer.

I've owned a few 'quick' Fwd cars over the years...

The Torque Steer on this thing is a little crazy...
