New Aston Martin Vanquish spy shots

When winter testing in the UK actually gets snowy!

Aston Martin would probably be let off forgetting about the Vanquish right now, what with launching the V8 Vantage road and race cars, plus introducing the V8 DB11, occupying its time at the moment. However, as these spy shots show, it would appear that development of the third generation Vanquish is well under way.

What's new? As expected there's some strong influence from both Vantage and DB11, the front end being particularly recognisable. Even at this stage it looks a more aggressive design than those two cars, however, the Vanquish's flagship status asserted with some prominent intakes, bonnet vents, broad rear haunches and an aggressive rear diffuser. It looks a more compact car than the outgoing Vanquish as well - though that could of course be a trick of the disguise - with shorter overhangs and a more confident stance. Wheels look great, too.

We would expect the next Vanquish to borrow heavily from the DB11, both in terms of the new aluminium platform and the 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12. In the DB that makes 600hp - identical to the current Vanquish S - so that power output looks likely to climb for the next car. When you bear in mind that the Aston will face rivals like the 635hp Bentley Continental GT and the 610hp Ferrari GTC4 Lusso T, the prospect of a 650hp Vanquish is not an unrealistic one. Jolly good...

Our sources are suggesting that the Vanquish will be launched in 2019, which gives a year for the V8 Vantage to become established and also time to welcome the DB11 Volante into the fold as well. A grand Geneva unveiling would surely do it justice. Let's hope there's more soon what looks like a very exciting new Aston!

Looks promising. Will have to go some to beat the current Vanquish looks wise.

Agreed, the current one is a great looking beast. Although from what I can see here, this new one is going to follow in the same vein. Looking good!

Reckon the DB11 and its children will develop into a really great looking car. Especially when looking back at how the DB9 developed.
How long before they drop AMG. They have a chinese infotainment co in the fold and will be entering F1 with Cosworth, Red Bull and apparently McLaren, who might bring Ricardo.

Did anyone else see this (or if not, something EXTREMELY similar) sat at the side of the M40 this morning, being loaded onto a recovery truck? Southbound, around Warwick if memory serves. Just before 8am?

Looking at the bottom 2 pictures, they must also have been testing in Sweden as those pics definitely weren't taken in the UK....but the top ones certainly were.

The wrong type of snow.....lol....and a Swedish registered Volvo...

Doesn't that just look lovely?

In a kind of menacing way.

Appears to have a much nicer headlight design than the db11 at the moment. Everything nicer than the vantage.

For some reason I thought Aston were calling this the DBS, as it’s following a very similar recipe to that of the DB9 and it’s DBS, being heavily based on the DB11. That leaves Aston free to use the Vanquish name for the new mid engined Ferrari/McLaren rival they’re planning...

Looks more like a DBS version of the DB11 than a Vanquish to me.

Whatever it does or doesn't resemble, the front looks like a proper (stunning) Aston Martin. Unlike new Vantage. I'm still mystified as to how they got the front end of new Vantage so wrong... and so (horribly) different... (all in my personal opinion of course)

Is it just me or do those alloys look remarkably similar to the RAYS wheels offered on the Nissan 370Z

It's probably not as good as the Golf R.

One of the advantages of being able to (design language wise, at least) start from scratch is to get rid of all the added fluff they have had to add to the Vanquish to make it look any different to the previous iterations, making it look "rather ungainly" (being polite).

This looks lithe, muscular, and a far more rounded and simple design than the current model. I hope it does well as I think it looks rather spectacular.

I'm guessing it'll be near 700bhp to get close to the Ferrari.

... the V8 Le Mans. My god, I still remember seeing this car in Geneva. Best Aston Martin ever!
