Admiral.

Car has just been declared a total loss (written off).

Do i now just get the settlement figure, pass it on to the insurance and that's that?

Any and all help appreciated.

I can offer no help at all on the technicalities here but, as a fellow Alfa driver, the sight of that car is awful.

You have my sympathy. Here's hoping for a fair resolution.

Strange it's been written off as the damage is all bolt-on parts. I guess they've done their sums though.

I read it as the gearbox, chassis and tub all needed replacement because of damage - sure, it's all bolt-together, but you're starting from ground zero...

If something as relatively minor as that wrecks the structure, I predict these disappearing in short order.

I'd be astonished if the suspension mount points on the rear subframe are straight after that sort of collision and the half-shaft has been ripped out of the diff which will have caused some damage to the gearbox casing... but even a new rear subframe and gearbox shouldn't write it off unless Alfa are charging absurb amounts for parts. I'd have guess at £15-20k to fix that and surely the car is worth about twice that?

I think he meant the CF tub is knackered, which certainly would write it off.

ETA: Shame, it's a lovely colour.

do these not have a carbon tub? on a cheap car like this i would expect any damage to a carbon tub = automatic write off

it looks very easy to damage the tub where the rear is mounted to it in the opps accident

Relatively minor? One wheel has been ripped off and the other isn't looking too clever. Plus unknown, engine, gearbox, exhaust, etc. damage on top.

This - imagine both sides of the tub would have been damaged based on the angle of both rear wheels.

Which bit are you calling the tub?

The carbon fibre tub - there is only one tub there confused

It's a combination of a whole lot of things and also the fact that not many places have the experience to put a car like this back together again.

To be fair to Admiral they had the car assessed on 3 separate occasions and pushed hard (as did i) for a repair.

I believe the passenger side of the tub has been compromised as has pretty much the whole of the back end of the vehicle. Long wait times for parts was also a factor, along with the large body panels of the 4C.

Really upset knowing i'll not get to drive it again, best car i have ever driven by a country mile.

Hence the question, I suspect, because rear suspension damage is surely far more likely to damage the ally rear subframe than the carbon front/centre tub.

It's difficult from the pictures to say how hard the impact to the subframe will have been - it looks like the other car hit the offside wheel and pushed the nearside wheel into the kerb so there's no reason to believe the subframe is bent across the width of the car. I could easily imagine that the offside subframe-to-tub mount is cracked though and I doubt it's repairable.

If you look at the pic of the rear suspension at full resolution, the ball joint is still attached to the arm, and there's a bracket attached to the ball joint...

Yes but that control arm mounts to the subframe not the tub. I suspect it's ripped off the tub-mount as well but neither of those in themselves will damage the tub.

Or just buy another one, if you liked it that much. There's plenty in the classifieds. smile
