What you want is the same ( or equivalent) car back on the drive, which is what you were expecting for the 2 or 3 year term
With a third party claim it shouldnt be an issue ( unless your insurer acts as a blocker)

It’s a nasty situation for the OP and he certainly has my sympathy. It sounds like a pitfall of leasing (and to a point PCP) which I’d never have considered so could have been caught out with too.

But I think what you’re suggesting needs to be an element of lease car insurance - it seems wrong that the none lease car driver insurance needs to be prepared for lots of extra expense due to the way the lease car driver chose to finance his car? The 3rd party needs to compensate the physical damage, not cover initial payments or the weeks and weeks of your time that you spent searching for a perfect car, or the expenses you incur in buying a replacement etc?

What I’ve learned from this thread is if I ever lease, I’m keeping the initial rental down and will be taking the GAP and initial rental insurance. I guess these would still pay even if a 3rd party is having to compensate for the losses to the actual vehicle?

Without rerunning Jordan and Cathy I wasnt suggesting any such thing
The insurance costs to the third paty should be the same whether or not the car theyve damaged is a lease car
Why would it be any different?
