I thought this was going to be about a VW van or pickup.

Glad it isn't.

I hope they do a version using the new LT5 engine from the 2019 Corvette ZR1.

755hp with an 8sp auto and big fat tyres. No match for a Golf R obviouslysmile
So long as Cadillac continue down the luxury performance route it must be possible and would be great to see.

Its a shame that GM wasn't able to continue to take the VXR8 brand forward in the UK, via Holden / HSV or however possible. There's been various rumours but it certainly looks dead for now. It could have inherited the LT4, the 8 speed auto, the electronic diff etc. in a right hand drive dealer supported vehicle which would have been handy. The LS2 and LS3 cars were bargains but in honesty pretty basic tools, the later GTS cars moved things forward a lot but the prices went to a level that just about killed them off in the UK market.

For those that understand what the CTS-V is it is not expensive. To get more performance you're probably looking at a Hellcat. The last VXR8's with less spec, less performance, less everything, were £75k and as far as I know they all got sold.

I loved seeing the lairy VXR8, especially given the very small production volumes. In an ever-more competitive and globalised world, however, could this have been sustained?

I ask because GM sells, say, 36,000 Corvettes in a good year and less than half that in more modest times -- all the while gnawing fingernails about such "low" niche numbers.

For much less money than the cost of sustaining and evolving VXR8, GM could add RHD to Corvette and Camaro so as to satisfy the UK and Oz at minimal cost. The strategy of Mustang, if you will.

I would definitely buy another V8 muscle car if one was available but they only imported 900 Monaros over a 2 year period I suspect to launch the VXR brand which obviously rubbed off on the Corsa, Astra etc. They don’t make them anymore so there’s no route to repeat the process sadly.

Even the global Mustang was a bit of a bodge which is why the rhd models make less power. Due to routing of the exhaust. I applaud Ford for being brave enough to engineer a car for both markets but I don’t think GM or Chrysler have the appetite given the complexity vs return.

Unfortunately the future is electric which is why I shall be keeping my Monaro.
