RE: BMW M6: PH Carpool
Discussion
That's right..1 week and around 250 miles. I wasn't able to get the bmw warranty due to a stamp missing in the service book. I love the car and even now i watch youtube videos just for the noise. A dealer snapped the car and was sold again few weeks later with a big loss my side.
The prices are all over for these cars so it's a bit hard to know how much is it really worth but one thing is for sure! Get a cheap one and you'll end up spending few ££££

Yes to the pictures and to the engine - although the I balk at the potential "bork" running costs vs a gen 2 997 911. Should I get over my fear and learn to love the M6?
I think the M6 is fairly reliable but it is incredibly complex..V10 with ten throttled and an amazingly complex ECU. I had only one major failure...the ECU. I was under warranty, but took about a week to sort at the dealers. The reason? I was not driving the car enough.I have had a string of 911s ( never had the IMS failure, though these are all 997/991). and in general they are not subject to catastrophic failure unless you have an early 991 GT3.
Nice write up.
Coincidentally I bought mine at the same time as you did, May 2016.
I totally agree about what others have said on its looks and think they have aged very nicely into what is now considered quite a handsome brute. In fact, and in my eyes, it looks better today than when it first launched- a testament to Bangle’s design. Hard to believe the design is 15 years old!
While it does have a few downsides like the tiny fuel tank, fuel consumption that makes you think you have a fuel leak and the rather clumsy auto mode, these are minor inconveniences for what is a rather special car.
For starters there’s the engine, a simply mellifluous masterpiece, which is made all the more special by the likelihood that it will be the last NA V10 we will ever see in a BMW. I also love its split personality; one minute it can be a docile grand tourer capable of crushing motorway miles and then at a press of a button it can be transformed into a howling monster that produces mesmerising levels of performance. And finally, there’s the fact it’s rather understated with only proper petrolheads and enthusiast really appreciating what it is.
In my opinion, these traits coupled with its rarity should see the E63 M6 destined to become a future classic.

Beautiful cars and an epic engine.
Recently been tempted to sell my E39 M5 and get either an E60 M5 or one one these M6.
But I have heard quite a few horror tories from a few specialists about the engine and gearbox, that I am a little worried. One of my specialists said that every single one he had serviced always has fine metal shavings in the oil when they drain it. And I can imagine the SMG gearbox being a little 'clumsy' in traffic. I have been in an E46 M3 SMG, and that gearbox wasn't the best when tootling around.
But on song, I really don't think there is an engine note that compares.

Curious how that could cause an ECU to fail, did they say what actually went wrong with it?I know they're a bit marmite on the styling front, but i do personally love the way these look. That engine is just bonkers though and must just dominate the whole experience. I do wonder if the values of these and the E60 M5 will end up sky-rocketing, just because of the over-engined formula.
I bought an M6 back in April.
2008, 44k miles, awesome spec, Interlagos blue with full Silverstone leather...
I immediately put the BMW extended warranty on it. £150 a month, £100 excess. I've made 2 claims already - without any issue.
I spent a year looking for the right car, literally. Patience is the key with these cars, they are incredibly rare in this condition - evidently there are only 31 2008 cars in the UK; I doubt many are at the spec I've got.
It is utterly awesome. Truly.
It is my daily driver and is without peer. We've all read or heard about it's high rev range speed but until you experience it you cannot comprehend it in a 'non supercar' scenario.
Fire up the 507 BHP by hitting the M Button and things start to 'growl' in your hands and under your right foot,; so, you push on - I had an E46 M3, I've tasted an 8K RPM BMW before - then you hit 5500 RPM and the World you've known changes...forever.
Unless you've had a bona fide supercar, this thing goes f***ing mental! At 6000RPM It squats down, narrows it's haunches, becomes 'smaller' and fires itself forward like a bloody rocket-ship. The World stops and the environment blurs around you. You can barely catch a breath before 110MPH comes and goes and you're grabbing 4th gear and you're off again, the V10 takes over and fires you towards the horizon daring you to hold on! Suddenly you're at 'stupid speeds' and reaching for another gear - micro-lift of the right foot between gears to keep things smooth - and you're way beyond your normal comprehension of pace and heading for prison!
God only knows where this beast runs out of breath but it's infectious, intoxicating, exhilarating whilst being confidence inspiring.
A monster.
I'll never sell mine. Ever.
