I miss my TVR & Monaro... I loved that proper transatlantic unevenly-spaced firing order racket.

Supercharged Monaro off the lights. Starts at 0.25.

McLaren M6B Can-Am onboard. He doesn't start properly gunning it until 1.27.

I've got a lot of affection for the 3.0 Triumph V8. It's just a really honest, tuneful V8. No silly exhausts, pops or bangs. Just exactly how you'd want a classic V8 to sound.

E92 M3 with the simple 2-pipe exhaust mod has a proper NASCAR sound to it.

Any 90 degree American V8 also is right up there.

I'm with you - I have something that sounds as good as that charger in my garage. 556 CI tall deck big block.

A lot of these cars sound very watered down compared to the big Yank v8s.

Like this for example...

Nothing like a naturally aspirated 358 c.i small block that revs to fking 10 THOUSAND RPM breathing through carbs, with the most insane cams and excreting what appears to be the size of a bush fire through it’s exhaust !!

Sadly Dale Earnhardt was killed in this car. But the sheer eargasm was too much to resist.

JUST LISTEN TO IT !

Not stock - but OEM Apache block and factory intake. 6.1 liters of rolling thunder.

Whenever I prick my ears up when I hear a nice-sounding V8, more often than not it's either Ford or Mercedes. I don't know what it is about Ford V8s, but generally speaking they sound better to me. I like the Y-Block in particular.

Others that spring to mind are the Buick Nailhead and Daimler V8.

I could go on about V8 sounds for days. You'd end up having to kill me.

Nice to someone on here mentioning the Y-Block.....as you say, they make a lovely noise, especially with some added period vintage speed equipment. They sound like a flathead on steroids biggrin

Equally, yes, nailheads, and Olds Rockets as well.

Ross Racing in the USA are a bit of a specialist in building some very cool and very powerful vintage Y-Blocks, Nailheads and Rockets.
This is the owners own Model A coupe with blown Rocket power, and I've heard this car up close and it's one of the best sounding V8's I've ever heard biggrin

Engines that immediately spring to mind for me:
- BRM V16
- Porsche Carrera GT V10
- BMW E46 M3 CSL
- Ferrari 355 V8 (all the newer flat plane V8s seem a bit too shouty for me)

Then it's that generic US V8 rumble. Ford or GM stuff is all good.

FFS, opened the topic about 8ish then forgot what it was about. Can I get away with the V16? Can't think of a good excuse on the V10 right now...

Modern V8s such as the AMGs sound a little sanitised and contrived to me when compared to the best of the V8s of the past.

The Americans made so many great sounding V8s it is difficult to find the best one, but I personally always liked the Buick Nailhead for some reason.

For European V8s, the Triumph Stag sounds surprisingly good and the old school Maserati Alfieri V8 used in cars like the Khamsin has long been one of my favourites.

Pretty much every cross plane V8 sounds good or very good to me. Some diesel V8s sound great - I remember a friend's 6.2 litre Chrysler V8 mad some impressive noises.

As often as not the BRM V16 was only running on 8 (or 13 , 11 etc )
