Its really not , thats just something some Skoda owners tell themselves to make them feel better.

Whether Audi are worth the extra is entirely a different argument but there is a significant difference in quality between the two brands

Surprised the fuel consumption is so different from the TSI Octavia , I'm averaging 34-36 out of mine and I am not lightfooted

That rather depends on how you define "quality". In terms of quality of mechanical and electronic engineering, they'll be as near identical as makes no difference (although Audis tend to get the latest features first). In terms of the perceived quality of touch points, an Audi A6 will certainly be better than a Superb but an A4 probably wont without paying for expensive upgrades.

well let's see:

1. a 335d runs on diesel, this is petrol, so not comparable
2. a Superb is the size of a 5-series, so not comparable
3. a 530i (which is slower than this) STARTS at £43,110, which is £8,330 more than the Superb 280.
4. the Superb is 4x4, the 530i is not.

Apart form that, yeah.
So you are saying they are not comparable...whilst comparing them...
Semantics. Maybe 'similar' would have been better than 'comparable'.

Exactly

People here can get caught up in semantics and be pedantic to the extreme.

I would call these cars similar - both 40k performance estates

Plus you can get the BMW in petrol and 4WD if you want.

I drive estates and bought both 3 series and 5 series sized cars inc A4 Avant, 3 series Touring and 5 series Touring and some Mercs also. And would consider this Skoda as a future car

I just need an estate but it doesn’t have to be an exact size of these cars are very comparable

You could save a good 1 Grand + by knocking off some of those electronic add-ons. The ones designed for "precious souls" who can afford to load up the extras-"just because I can".

Whatever happened to the days when the best electrical equipment built into humans decided by how much to press a pedal, reverse into or out of a parking space FFS.

Small wonder that there has been no significant reduction in the amount of parking dings/scrapes or road accidents generally despite cars getting more clever.

Cars have got bigger, the size of parking spaces has remained the same, drivers have definitely got worse.

I'm sure those comments are all factually correct.

Maybe forward thinking car manufacturers need to add 2 new device buttons to multi function steering wheels.... "Judgement" & " Engage brain"

NVH, comfort , trim quality , basic construction materials , the Audi (Any Audi) is significantly nicer inside . If other people cant notice a difference all power to them , not slagging Skodas , I've bought 4 new ones and a couple of Audi's but I notice it whenever i get in an Audi that there is a big difference

Indeed.
What's wrong with them?

It's not just semantics though. They are comparable cars with lots of similarities. I'd certainly consider both as options, I normally buy a 3 year old estate for the daily, and would consider either 3/5 series/Superb size, and both petrol/diesel and so on, so to me they are comparable.

They're far too low, meaning the engine is turning over rather fast at motorway speeds, even in top gear.

There I disagree.

The A6 is better; the A4, IMO, is not, or at least not significantly unless you spend thousands on things like real leather; the A3 is significantly worse inside than a Superb, overall.

Ours has about 35k on it now and a high % of motorway use...can't say I've ever noticed this...... 4wd & manual gearbox btw

Is yours a 280? All of the other models are higher geared.

One of the early PH Fleet reviews did question why it didn't have the 7-speed DSG box fitted to it as most other cars in the family already have, but supposed it was due to keeping the 0-60 times looking better?

Sounds like a good thing to me smile My R53 Mini in 5th gear is similar to 3rd in a brand new Mini Cooper I drove, far too long geared although I sometimes look for 7th in mine at anything over 60mph!

There's a slight difference in primary purpose between a huge family estate and a small hot hatch.

Indeed but maybe to most its a problem but to some its a good thing, I just hate long gearing...
