Have you accidentally misplaced the MOT fails between the passes?
Three MOTs in 2017 until you got a pass.....

Being partly responsible for a Mk2, which companies are good choices for working on them?
The one in the article is being worked on at this place - http://www.greatescapecars.co.uk/workshop.aspPistonBroker said:

MOT was only recently done and no any failure notices I always keep.I'll speak to the tech about the record.
I'm glad the history is there.....it goes to show work done on a near 30 year old car.
Welding was usual water ingress behind plastic arch at rear and proper fabrication done by ex Tim Stiles techs who really know early stuff. I've always looked after and replaced anything with play worn items.....it's a very we'll looked after solid car which TBH has cost me a packet over the years.
Anyway for the right buyer and enthusiast it's a great little car with a nice historical articles in VW Driver, Performance VW and is featured in Haines Golf GTI book written by Tim.

Really enjoyed this thread.
I would suggest you do your best to keep the car. Good luck with the divorce.
I have always thought marriage to a woman was like a hurricane.
A lot of sucking and blowing to start with and then you end up losing your house !!
I also feel your pain regarding all these cheap parts from China. Rear parking sensors being my particular favourite useless part at the moment.

Heartfelt write up. Good luck with the car. My foray into Golf GTi ownership was tarnished with the purchase of a new mk 3 in 1996. The only good thing about it was the colour - mystic blue - looked fab when the sun occasionally shone! Got replaced in 1998 with an Alfa 156 2.5 24v V6. Handled like a galleon under full sail, but sounded epic!
This article was a trip down nostalgia lane for me having owned an identical black 16 valver from New then. Having owned an 8 valver before it, the top end go was very exciting although I seem to remember that a relative lack of torque seemed to be the trade off. I am not sure that I should own up to remembering such nerdish detail! I loved the car though and it looked in stunning in Black with the BBS wheels. I’d love to know what it feels like to drive now as I don’t think it had power steering and it’s always a shock to go back to unassisted cars from that era with weak brakes thrown in to remind you what a wonderful driver you must have been in those days!
Great find.
I too was re-united with my old 16v in March last year after a 22 year gap. (found by a chance browse on ebay) I thought it just needed a 'little work' to get it back to its former glory. Been with a restorer for 10 months - lots of welding and 'a little paint' has grown into a glass out respray. Not letting it go again!

I sold mime to a fellow enthusiast in the oil industry and he contacted me out of the blue and I bought it back in 2012.
Next job was a full glass out respray to get her back to its former glory.
Good luck with the restoration.
It makes me want to hold onto mine!
Finally got my MK2 TDI back on the road today after it blowing its turbo in November.
2nd hand turbo fitted, while it was off the road had a lad wire up cruise control as well using OEM MK2 cruise stalk. Over the moon this afternoon that its boosting well and cruise is working....
6pm dark outside, get in it to go to work for nightshifts and no dash lights or headlights (only main beam working) bloody MK2's who'd have them!
