I can't be the only one who despises people who look down on other people because they don't drive the same leased car as them? I take st for driving an ST170, guess what, I'm 18, I can't afford to drive the same generic blue leased Golf R as everyone else, and I couldn't stomach driving the same leased Ibiza FR as everyone my age either. I'd say it angers me, but it's just sad to see, I can't help but think it adds to my enthusiasm for cars dying more and more. I'm sure I'll take st on this too before it turns into another lease thread.
Worst "I have a sanitary towel" thread evar.

Definitely needs moar dragons.

(I drive a leased M240i, hate at me bro).

I often find that the people getting the most butthurt about the leased *insert hot hatch* are the ones who want said lease deal but can't afford/justify it.

Let them crack on and do that and you should just enjoy whatever car you have.

Me personally, I have more respect for someone who has an older car but you can tell they look after it rather than someone who has just picked up a M140i at £300pcm and does nothing else other than drive it and take it to the nearest swirl inducing car wash.

These super cheeeeep leases won't be around forever, so maybe take some comfort in thinking that when they have to give it back, they may not be able to get the equivilent so cheap? Either way, it's not your problem.

Again, show me where I said I have an issue with leased cars? My parents have a leased 340i? And I just find it sad that people are s enough to look down on what other people drive, especially when they have nothing to back it up with.

My 20 year old car has grown on me to the point where it's now around 4th on my "cars I've owned that I most like driving" list (out of about 70). It just went through its MOT with no extra expense (advisories 2 tyres, February, tankyouverymuch). This makes it difficult to replace on a budget, sod what anyone else thinks, even if I buy a new car I can still give them plenty of other targets for banter, lol.

Anyway, as someone said above, ST170 at 18? Are you sure it's not just jealousy? How do you insure that?

Finally... Seat Ibizas? Round here, their parents all lease them Polos...

Typical British snobbery. All about the image isnt it.
id hardly say its British snobbery

image is different to snobbery somewhat. the rich builder with his fancy motors will be looked down upon by snobs still. That's the class system.

image is not snobbery. tell the kid whio must have certain make of trainers etc etc ad bloody nauseum

Part of the fun for me is to enjoy cars that others look down their noses at.
Why be part of a herd of berks struggling to get the beers in, what with their lease and the rent they have to pay Mum each month?

Maybe I'm just taking this too personally as I lease a new car, but it seems to me like you are looking down upon people who have more expensive cars than you! Just sounds to me like you are jealous of these people since you mentioned both cheap cars and expensive ones...

Your car is fine, if you like it then that's all that matters. DOn't worry about what anyone else thinks. I don't think most people "look down" on others for having cheaper cars although I don't question that a lot of people buy new cars so they look rich.

Deary oh deary me, this is almost comical. I was 18 around the time you were born. And trust me, if I was able to buy and insure the level of performance and handling a ST170 had I would have been over the moon. I had a 53hp diesel that I thought was great anyway. Enjoy what you have, simples.

Luxury!
When I were a lad I ‘ad to sculpt a car out of coal. And we were grateful.

To despise them, you must first look down on them.

Secondly, Tesco have a sense of humour on offer at the moment for £10.99. My post was entirely tongue in cheek.

Finally, I've no desire nor love for the hotted up VAG's (or the non-hot ones either for that matter) but cant bring myself to dislike, let alone despise someone who buys or leases one. Their money, their choice how to spend it.

Couldn't agree more.

Seems The Gospel according to PH is as below.

Can't be a Petrolhead if your daily drinks from the black pump, I've yet to see this on the Statute books mind!

Have to have a Golf R, Ibiza FR BMW, 1/3/5 series because that's what everyone else on your Barratt estate drives & it mustn't be white.

You bought a car for your wife at Christmas, you love it despite not wanting to but you're asked if you really did buy it, will be told it's going to depreciate by ££££ in years 1, 2. & 3.

Then someone asks if you really did buy it, WTAF has it to do with you?

And finally some Throbber tells you you could have bought an M3 of some sort, albeit older, for the same money, even if the running costs would cripple you.

My stable consists of a Diesel daily, I do 30k pa & it's a business expense, it's also bought & paid for. A 1995 Jaguar Sovereign, 2000 P38 Range Rover, for that V8 itch, an Astra as a shed & Mrs Jim AK has a bought & paid for ex hire car VW Polo, it does about 5k a year, is100% reliable even if VAG build quality has all but disappeared.

Stick with your ST & your principles OP, I for one am in total agreement with you.

There’s what, 38m or so cars in the UK?
So, apart from one rather smug and self-satisfied individual, 37,999,999 cars are ‘looked down on’.

I’m lucky and have quite a few cars, a couple of which are very nice (depending of course on how you define a nice car). Maybe there’s only a few thousands who 'look down' on my nice cars (based on my definition of nice).

But I get a lot of pleasure out of driving the more mundane and generic of our fleet that many millions will look down on.

There will always someone who has a better car, nicer house, prettier wife/husband/goat (*delete as appropriate), bigger @@@@ (select your preferred part of the anatomy) than 99.999999% of the rest of the world.

Frankly, I don’t give a damn, and neither should you.

You would hate me then, leased Golf R at 19.

Bet that's made your blood boil.

I have 0 interest in ever owning a new car, nor do I care what my car costs to buy. I won't bother explaining that I have no issue with leased cars as no-one is going to bother paying attention to it.

Aaron, you're young and offended. That's OK. What you are concentrating on is the looks and image and in some ways that's an insecurity only you can deal with.

What you don't realise is that cars are also a great social leveller. You can be in a crap car and the £100,000 car (or £499pm with £1,497 deposit and 6,000 miles pa service included for those that don't understand numbers that don't end in 9!) will still have to give way to you and cede to your right of way.

Why let it bother you? Let them be snobs.

From 17-23 I've had an old Astra, Citroen C4, Smart Roadster, MR2 MK3, MG ZT. All of which were ste cars in most people my ages' view, but I liked them for their own reasons.

My leased Fiesta Black Edition got the most praise purely because it was newer. Probably the least fun car I had as I was scared of damaging it hehe
