At 18 an ST170 is a really good car. Presumably it's yours not rented so you can get to know the mechanical side and maintain it yourself.

If my OH and I have kids later on I would be surprised if they have anything as nice as an ST170 at 18.

OP, on a separate note, if you can't understand why people have read your opening post and concluded that you have a problem with leased cars, my recommendation (1) is that you learn more about language and how to use it to convey sentiment and meaning.

(1) or don't, I'm not the Secretary of State for Bossing People About, you don't have to listen to me.
OP seems to have a bit of an inferiority complex? I’m sure no one is that bothered about your Focus! It’s the sort of car that blends in isn’t it.
If you’re that worried why not lease your own Golf R?

this whole thread is a troll
he's probably not 18 and probably doesn't have the focus ST or the 4 friends he claims to have.

a) ...what other people drive
b) ...how it was funded, and whether the driver can afford it. My 72 year-old, Daily Mail reading father-in-law hypothesises that every nice car he sees driven by a black or Asian person is either stolen, or funded by the sale of Class A. No less bitter and sad than seeing a complete stranger in a nice car and crying "lease", "PCP", or "How can they afford that?"
c) (perhaps most appropriate for the op) ...what other people think about what THEY drive.

Life's too short for such crap. Buy (or lease, or PCP) what you want, drive it, enjoy it. Being bitter and angry is bad for your health, trust me.
yes
And another yes

It’s laughable that some people get so wound up by other people’s property.

Half my family drive BMW, the other half drives Audi.

I drive a 15 year old pick up truck.

I see it as the third way.

Come on mate, who would pretend to own a ST170 it’s not exactly out of reach to anyone really. I believe the guy, he’s fed up with worrying that he isn’t good enough as he has a basic car and seems to resent people who have got better cars but is projecting it as that they are being snobs to him. Op just needs to learn not to care! Or get a better car of course.

And ironically on that thread he got nothing but praise and support for the car. Cant see why he gives a st about what non enthusiasts think.

Chill out lad, my son has a 60hp Renault Modus. Is it ok if he looks up to you?
I think you have the issue as many have already said.

Worst "I have a sanitary towel" thread evar.

Definitely needs moar dragons.

(I drive a leased M240i, hate at me bro).
Again, show me where I said I have an issue with leased cars? My parents have a leased 340i? And I just find it sad that people are s enough to look down on what other people drive, especially when they have nothing to back it up with.
But you don't mind looking down on them?

Well said sir, can't understand why so many Petrolheads get so unbelievably pent up because someone else is driving doesn't confirm exactly to their tastes and wants, be it how it is funded/owned, what wheels are driven, badge it wears, what engine it has, turbo or N/A, fuel used etc etc.
If you work hard and enjoy it, good for you, I might not like it (I reserve the right to take the P, particularly if it falls into the purely cosmetic/sheep-in-wolf-clothing categories) but the car world and economy would be so bloody boring if we were all driving the same vehicle.

I pcp my golf gti pp I don’t look down on anyone and I’m not going to be stupid enough to own it and pay 30k on a depreciating asset, just put it through the business and it’s free to me rly 😂 does that boil your piss

Looking to put a macan or a rs3 through the business next too

Only buy appreciating assets like houses
Rent depreciating assets like cars

I can't be the only one who despises people who look down on other people because they don't drive the same leased car as them? I take st for driving an ST170, guess what, I'm 18, I can't afford to drive the same generic blue leased Golf R as everyone else, and I couldn't stomach driving the same leased Ibiza FR as everyone my age either. I'd say it angers me, but it's just sad to see, I can't help but think it adds to my enthusiasm for cars dying more and more. I'm sure I'll take st on this too before it turns into another lease thread.
OP - You have a nice car. With automation coming up and driverless cars all will change in your lifetime.

Life is shorter than you realise, enjoy your life and don't worry about it.

Like the O/P has.

Fair play to the guy. The ST170 is a decent car, he only gave a few £££ for it, and it has an interesting history. I dont know why he gives a monkeys what other people say or think about it OR why he cares how they are driving what they drive.

The ST170 I had was the worst car in my history, irritating me far more than even an 850 Mini, I hate them with a passion.

But, nothing to be ashamed with buying what you like. As for car snobs, the sooner you get over worrying the better.

I didn’t own my own car until I was 25. You’ve still got a nicer car than me so you’re doing something right smile

I havent got an issue with leasing, but when you do lease your monthly costs are based on depreciation.
