I reckon the DCT version will be a riot and the one i'd go for. When is this face-lift version due to be released?

DCT is acceptable, but those rear lights?
Indeed. I really like the first of the new MINIs i.e. the R50 / R53 era cars. But the design has got relentlessly uglier and more cartoonish with every subsequent iteration. They're just gopping now.
Very much agree, Mini should mean small, ok the car is no longer small, but at least the rear tail lights were in proportion on the first ones.

How about BMW doing smaller, lighter, less cartoony, Mini with this new gearbox, a great engine and chassis?

I am actually a big fan of Mini. I owned an r56 for nearly 4 years and loved every minute of it. I thought about swapping this for the latest F55 / 56 version, but they had pushed the looks too far for my liking (i know looks are subjective).

But those lights are setting new standards of OTT! I think they look childish and quite cartoon like. Its just one more aspect of Mini design that will be splitting opinion. OK, they may go down well in England and the USA for example, but how about other arrears of the UK? Those with people who perhaps arn't so keen on the union flag? I can see this being a proper deal breaker for some.

I hear certain country's, the ROI specifically, are getting the standard halogen lights still as an option, so why cant everybody else?

Shouldn't they be on the reversing lights then?

I do like the fact that the headlights have a ring running all the way around now, the halfway house set up on my F56 MCS looks a little daft I reckon. For me the MINI should be a manual and that's what I went for, but I'm guessing the DCT will sell extremely well because two pedals/paddles are very fashionable nowadays.

I really like this shape MINI and have found it to be a great fun drive. But I'm definitely not a fan of those rear lights! I'm sure they could've come up with a more stylish LED update to freshen up the rear a little, not that it needs it anyway. The only criticism I've found with the current car is the 'Visual Boost' Radio seems to be based on quite an old version of BMW iDrive but with a MINI skin somehow making it less intuitive to use than it should be.

Why would BMW do that?

Waste millions on R&D of a radio when the Sheeple will have these PoS regardless.

VAG do much the same with their sub brands by introducing a new Seat or Skoda on previous gen VW running gear.

How long before Kahn copies those rear light for range rovers?

I really enjoyed the older mini I had as a bmw courtesy car, but could not entertain a Nigel Farage edition with dazzling headlights and put up being flashed by all oncoming traffic.

I didn’t like the FGen minis at launch but they’ve really grown on me, maybe because in 2017 I bought an R55 Clubman and an R53 Cooper S.

The rear lights are a bit challenging but I like the rest of the update.

Size of these things always comes up and it’s an interesting topic. I’ve come to the conclusion hey actually look bigger than they are. My Clubman is the same size as a three door 2015 Corsa, I know this as I packed next to one yesterday. But if you look at them in isolation you’d think the Clubman is a bigger car.

These cars are much like MX5s. They’re quite divisive amongst petrolheads. I was dismissive of them for years having owned lots of classics and been heavily into that scene as a youngster. I’m a full on Bini convert now though.

To satisfy my own curiosity I just checked some google specs of the R55 Clubman vs a 3 door Corsa D. My Clubman is shorter, lower and narrower than a Corsa D but with a slightly longer wheel base.

There are plenty of people who don't like Britain and the Union Flag and what it stands for. What about independence minded Scots, or certain sections of Northern Ireland and Eire? I can't see this helping sales in such places.

For me, anything with gaudy Union Flags is a no anyway, so it would be enough to stop me buying one--unless they can fit normal lights.
