Is it really going to be worth £8000 more than the new Fiesta ST with similar power?
probably:

"Sachs Performance dampers, a Magnuson Eaton supercharger, forged wheels and a Torsen limited-slip differential"

You can get Bilstein Clubsports for £3000.
don't need a supercharger, just get a remap (£300).
forged alloys around £1500
LSD £1000

????

Nah still not 8k's worth IMO. Diff 2k? Blower 1.5k? Oh st I forgot the F1 spec Sachs dampers made from unobtainium. The cost is due to the limited build run, not the sum of its parts.

you could put the money into an ST but it won't get rid of the lag or the additional weight

Always liked the look of the Yaris and wondered why there wasn't a quick one. I had a GT86 from launch and also owned a Landcruiser for years. You'd sit there thinking, 'someone has spent a lot of time getting this just right'. Seems like they're at it again. Shame there will be so few !

A remap to replace a supercharger? That you 'don't need'?

This is pistonheads not mums.net

There is no lag to speak of. This isn't a 1984 Brabham ffs. And if the Fiesta weighs more, it's probably because it's a proper production car that needs more consideration for road driving, you know, like a hot hatch should.

And a remap of what? This engine was never put in the Yaris in naturally aspirated form. I'd also love to see the remap which can take a naturally aspirated 1.8 from <140bhp to >200. hehe

It's just a form of forced induction

If you already have a turbo no point removing it to replace it with a Supercharger.

You'd think so given all the Fiesta St's now are turbocharged.

But hey, this isn't Mumsnet. I shouldn't have to spell it out... biggrin

Oh I missed the Fiesta reference. smile

Fair enough then, if you're happy with a turbo and no warranty.

Forged alloys are like 3k€ and lsd is 1k€ plus installation. These are truly expensive parts.

the VAQ diff is very good and clever.

Depends if you want 19 inch multi piece scene wheels or decent 17" Performance alloys.

TSW Bathhurst (forged) in 17x8 - £1055.
Not fully forged but more than enough.

Likewise a set of decent pressure cast alloys (such as Team Dynamics Pro Race) are cheap around £500 a set and light and strong (used in BTCC).

LSD can be expensive but not prohibitively so. The expensive part of removal of factory gearbox and splitting. If an LSD was installed by the original gearbox manufacturer it would be a lot cheaper.
Either way a Peloquin or Quaife ATB diff is around £700 for most applications (plus installation) and a plated diff (Gripped) is around £1200.

Point is you can start with arguably a better "car" (EG Fiesta ST) and spend a little bit of money on it and you have something which is just as, if not more, capable.

I do like this Yaris but it would be cheaper to buy a standard one and modify it... lol

Not in TCO terms it wouldn't.

Standard Yaris let's say £15k
Mods £5k if you like
Value in 3 years £10k
TCO £10k

GRMN £26k
Mods £0
Value in 3 years £20k+
TCO <£6k

This is always a crossroads point the conversation. a bit like new versus old in a thread about a new car.
I'm also increasingly of the mindset to mod newish cars as manufacturers rarely get it spot on and cost cutting hits the mechanics so that PCP buyers get bigger tablets on the dash.
Personally I'd buy either a GT86 or MX5 and budget 5k or so to have them deliver their full promise. Just over 30k and nothing below 50k would touch them for everyday driver appeal (I'll exclude Lotus from that category).
of course nobody here has driven the Yaris nor the new Renault Sport. Very few the i30N either.

Yes, Mini charged the Diff option at around £120 at time of build

"There is no lag to speak of" rolleyes When was the last time you drive a car with a relatively powerful non-turbo engine??!
