I live right on the lancs/GMP border too - Had my car stolen with keys after they broke in 18 months ago, just before Xmas I was "visited" again. This time I had CCTV and anti snap locks. After 7 minutes of trying to get in, Something disturbed the twonk and he legged it. I was left with a destroyed (but secure) door lock and some CCTV footage (It caught a man putting a balaclava on after he got out of a Vuaxhall Insignia, which was stolen from an adjoining Village the day before). Car crime is rampant round here at the moment. Our Police office was closed a few years ago and we rely on units coming from Bury to assist. I do have a marker on my house now (according to the Officer that came round 2 or 3 times the following week) that if I ring 999 and say i've been Burgled they will know its likely for my car. Our local Facebook group has 2 or 3 thefts from or thefts of vehicles a week.

Im sorry this has happened to you Gavia, I know just how much of a kick in the nuts it is.
Reading your post, I honestly thought we lived in the same village until you mentioned Bury, as everything you’ve described fits perfectly here too.

I’ve just had a mate turn up and make my heart skip a beat. Pitch black and car pulls up outside my house, twompeople get out and one goes straight to the car and looking in it. Dogs abuse verbally to him and I’d already grabbed a baseball bat and the phone. Bloody idiot.

That is quite a well thought out view though to be honest, i had a similar view but with how rife it's becoming it was putting me off spending a chunk of money i'll never get again on special to me.

To Gavia again, hope you're only visits are from friends or your new security stops them in their tracks and turns them to less protected neighbors for however better on the whole that is.
Thanks. The only way they’ll get the car is by violence / threats to me as it’ll be unstealable with the measures now in place. The question is whether they want to escalate it that far, as it becomes a much more serious and investigated crime when that happens.

Would a tracker not save a lot of hassle? I know a lot of people wouldn’t want their car back after it was stolen but they usually park them up for a few days to see if they get picked up.
A good security tip is to leave a few large dog bowls outside. Let them think you have a large dog in the house.
That’s one of about 10 levels in place across car / house / driveway.

Dog stuff is easy to check, just a tap on a window, ring the doorbell. All dogs will bark if there is one.

You can get electronic dog barking gadgets, that work on radar/microwave, so go off if someone gets close.

With all you have, you now need to be aware when going to/from the car.
True, although that would very much go against the current MO of the scum. They like working in the early hours and I’m rarely outside at that time, other things make it tricky to sneak up too.

A £12.99 Sport Direct hoody trumps a £5k CCTV installation.
It may well do, but if that’s just part of the overall security package, then the CCTV is a good way to check on things live or recorded if needed.

Exactly one month and there’s not been any news at all about the car. This is despite all the forms being filled in to track the car as claimed possible by a few posters on here. The new car arrived two weeks ago and all additional security in place in both car and house.

The car theft epidemic in the area seems to have calmed down, although that’s probably because all the nice cars have gone

Just a waiting game now to see what happens.
