Is it that hard to push an auto selector one notch into neutral? I manage with mine...

Also, shifting to neutral often can cause additional wear.
Wear of what? Less wear than that of holding the brakes against the torque converter I'd wager, both being totally insignificant...
It actually can if your shifter is stely designed like on my E92.... moving it from sport/manual back over to the right so you can select neutral/park can cause the cables in the box to eventually wear and break..... as mine did, meaning it would no longer switch to sport/manual. I can't remember what the quote was to have it fixed but it wasn't cheap! Thankfully found a how to guide on another forum.

Don’t cars with auto hold apply the brake lights when stationary?

Plus, 10 minutes at a level crossing?
Mine does .. stop in traffic and handbrake comes on automatically as do the brake lights

I’m stationary with the handbrake on ..and foot absolutely no where the brake pedal .. but the brake lights are on .. it is the way it’s designed and no I don’t know why that is

Probably the same cretins that decided the dash should be illuminated all the time, so you didn't notice that you'd got DRLs and no rear lights on at night...

Or why they didn't include the rear lights in the whole DRL idea....

Nothing to say they can't be on all the time.

....except that dims the front DRLs to normal sidelights. Are all DRLs LED or are some normal side;lights?

I have the use of a dsg equipped Caddy. Stop, using foot brake. Stop/start kills the engine, while youre still blinding the driver behind. Apply handbrake as you should, as per Highway Code and then release footbrake and the engine restarts, revs to about 1100rpm and attempts to drive itself away.
Utter pants.

Plenty of DRLs are halogen bulbs, for example Corsa, various Audi models, Golf etc. No requirement for them to be LED, although they usually last longer unless you drive a T5.

They don't have to be dim-and-rears OR bright-only-front. They could just have the rear lights on with DRLs. It's often a menu option, or dealer-computer-configurable.

Same goes for my motorcycles, two of them are LEDs. Not sure how annoying they are, but I can't be going through all the gears to find neutral everytime I stop, it just isn't realistic.
What's the matter with you? If you come to a stop at a level crossing are you in top gear?

OP. It'll have an electronic handbrake which unfortunately lights the brake lights without a foot being on the pedal. It's the thing I hate most about my Ateca.

It does seem to be a really daft idea. Just as daft as putting the indicators adjacent to stupendously bright headlights where they can't be seen. Who passes this legislation, doh?

Nothing to do with legislation. The legislation doesn't say "You must do this". It's the stylists' choice.

I'm with the op (in part anyway).

I've got a heated front screen in my car and it does add to the glare from lights at night.
I'd rather not have a heated front screen but there's not much I can do about that.

The Audi driver was annoying but at least he wasn't driving 'round with his rear fogs on.

So there you go - I'm a snowflake apparently.

Probably an economic choice as it allows the whole unit to be built cheaply, elsewhere and slotted on, easily, on the production line.

I like to stay in first to whip it off the line but motorcycles can usually be held still, with your feet but, regardless, it's a single small unit, not a vast array of 50 or more LEDs in two tail units and above the back window, recreating a realistic interpretation of an African sunset over the Serengheti.

I'm an auto Audi driver. I even have a private plate.

If stopped for more than 20 seconds, I put it in neutral and apply the park brake.

To the OP. I think you are a dick. Get a new bandwagon to jump on. The whole 'Audi drivers are cocks' thing just paint you as a brainless piece of mutton.
