By an eye patch, pirate style.....

Pirates wore eye patches to maintain night vision in one eye. This was important when boarding ships and moving from bright daylight on deck to then going into the dark gloom of the below deck levels. Keeping one eye covered during the attack would allow them an advantage when taking the fighting below decks.

So there you go. When following audis at night, use an eye patch like a pirate. Simples.

Keep one eye closed when you turn the loo light on for those 3am toilet trips.
You can then find your way back to bed with the light back off again. No more stubbed toes, screams and the OH going "Uh, What the fk"

You're welcome.

I'm sure someone's already mentioned this after eight pages, but some modern cars actually have the brake lights wired to the handbrake too. Please try and remain calm, OP. hehe

I find it very annoying to have a bright LED in my eyes but I understand it's not going to change so I just use the sunshade which also allows me to check my make up at the same time.

Casual racism - check
Scots are not a race, pedantic - check
However, EU defines racism offences as concerning "race,
colour, religion, descent or national or ethnic origin". So still casual racism.

Internet pedantry fail - check.

Keep some sunglasses in the door pocket to avoid being blinded if it happens again.

You'll look cool too, like a pop star.

cool
When I was young the only glasses I ever wore were sunglasses whilst driving on bright days.
As old age kicked in my eyesight got poorer and I had to wear glasses and prescription sunglasses.

Once used to wearing glasses all the time I'd forget to take off my sunglasses at the end of a journey in bright sunlight and continue to wear them indoors.

I'd like to think it made me look cool but the balance of probabilities are that it put me firmly on the Bell-End List.

I'm with the OP with regards to inconsiderate use of the brake lights, particularly at night. The make, colour and regn no. are immaterial.

Stopping further behind wouldn't make much difference as the new brake lights are bright.

Another issue is that by holding it on the footbrake, if it's not auto-hold, is that if you get rammed from behind the automatic reaction is generally for the foot to come off the brake pedal, so vehicle can shoot forwards. If park brake is applied, it reduces the risk of the car being shunted into something, or somebody, else. Same reason you should apply park/handbrake at pedestrian crossings etc and not ride the clutch as I saw recently.

As for it being too much trouble to apply the park brake or put an auto in park, really? And putting it in neutral causes wear, nonsense.

If it’s any longer than a few minutes and someone is behind me I just put the park brake on, leaving it in drive and the brake lights go off. Sorted.

I'm with the OP on this too. My eyesight is pretty good - I struggle a bit with reading small print close up, but I can read signs and registration plates at distances well beyond the requirements of the driving test - and the retina-burning issue is very real. Auto (i.e. non)-dipping xenon headlights are another issue - driving at night on busy roads has been a real pain for several years as a result. I'd be interested to hear any tips on how to deal with this safely, anything that can filter out specific wavelengths/frequencies of light without impairing overall sight (as I suspect wearing conventional sunglasses at night probably would).

BTW, when I'm playing "bellend bingo", it's usually some old biffer in a Honda Jazz that really pisses me off...

I haven't read all the thread because it all seems so silly, but are there drivers who judge others by the make and colour of the car? Do they think having a VAG product show you are a bellend? Are these people that juvenile?
This smacks of Mods/ Rockers or rival football hooligans. The same tribal thinking that says ' He doesn't do what I do, and obviously what I do is best otherwise I wouldn't do it, therefore he must be a lesser person or some I should hate or do harm to' .

Actually isn't all this disdain for drivers of certain makes just a load of band-wagon jumping crap? Like the jokes about indicators being optional extras on BMWs. WHat, no BMW driver uses their indicators? Honestly threads like this make me realise what a pathetic group can be found on here sometimes.

I read some idiot on here saying that middle aged men shouldn't wear jeans. ' It's a bit Clarkson'. I'd like to be a bit Clarkson, filthy rich and a couple of houses.

It just seems ludicrous to create a thread moaning about "bellend" Audi drivers when pretty much every car made in the last 20 years has high intensity rear brake lights fitted and when the OP has rolled up within less than a metre of it. It's a bit like letting your dog crap on your neighbour's front lawn and then complaining to everyone about the mess he hasn't cleared up...
