Many years ago, the day after my second child was born, I was tugged by a Police motorcycle, whilst I was on my way home from visiting the wife and child in hospital.

Copper informed me there was no insurance on the car, and that it would be seized. Low loader turns up, takes my car away, leaving me standing at the side of the road, holding a ticket.

Got home, checked my files, found the insurance had expired on the day my son was born (i.e. a day before I got nabbed). With all the fuss that goes with welcoming a new arrival to the family, I'd been letting the household admin take a back seat. frown

Six points, £350 fine, £200 release fee at the car pound, and expensive high street broker car insurance (because they could produce a paper certificate on the same day).

A very expensive lesson learned that day! I'm recounting this story now to provide the "other" side of the uninsured driver story. Sometimes, because we are human, we forget things. Not an excuse, but it does happen.

PS: Didn't moan, didn't bh and whine, just pulled on my big boy pants and took my medicine. st happens.

QUick google and found this from Churchill - analysis using MIB data (https://www.churchill.com/press-office/releases/2016/uninsured-driving-hotspots-in-the-uk)

Adding up gives 948,000 give or take a few. So yeah pretty much 1 million uninsured vehicles on UK road (estimate!)

Surely in the UK we insure drivers not vehicles?

Pretty sure its my car thats insured (and I am insured to drive it) and as the policyholder other cars third party with my insurer. So yep it;s the car thats insured. Unless I am missing something and I dont think I am

If you can't afford to insure your car, you can't afford to have a car. Get the bus.
Not sure if this is still true today, but I remember an article about London supercar owners from 10 years ago or so. Their cars are so expensive that the insurance is very expensive (surprise! rolleyes). So many didn't insure them, weighing up the cost against the risk. banghead

We insure the combination of car and driver.

I'm insured to drive that car, but not that car.
That car's insured, but that one's not.

Its the trouble with ANPR it can check a car but it cant tell whether the driver, driving it, is insured

If instead the car was insured it would be a piece of cake

Some countries include third party insurance in the cost of petrol so the problem doesnt arise

Would be interesting to see the regional breakdown of that number
Would that be regional as in a former mill town in West Yorkshire?! biggrin
Not much point in wasting money on insurance for your car if you haven't bothered getting a valid driving license.

It surely is tragic!

Does anyone on here know about the correct use of capital letters? Or have any knowledge of punctuation?

What exactly is "this dame man" FFS?

This seems to sum things up quite well! )

i guys,

I am planning to get an F80 M3 soon however as I am 25 with 6 points I got a few quotes and my premium is coming up around 4k which is very high.

I was thinking about buying a smart car and getting full comp insurance (with a company that allows me to drive any car). Will I have any issues with the driving the M3 then?

The M3 will have fully comp insurance with my Dad.

Thanks in advance

Bell-end would be too polite for such a c*nt!

If you’re loaded then you don’t need insurance?

Impressed you got as far as that. First eight words were trouble enough. I think there are some missing.

Maybe they're gender fluid? Still doesn't excuse driving without insurance!
