It's amazing the number of people who still think the petrol cap to a Ford Focus is on the offside rear! When will they learn?
Abso-bloody-exactly.
Can someone explain the joke?
I don't get it either.

A more generic one I hear from quite a few people is 'oh my car is brilliant on petrol, I put £20 in it and it lasts me all week'. Tells you nothing!
My dad bemoans his C Class because it take £60 of diesel to fill when mum's Hyundai i10 only need £30 petrol.
Bizarre logic. I bemoan my Skoda because it only takes about £60 of petrol to fill and that's not really enough for a large 3.6l car. For me the bigger the tank the better as it means less visits to petrol stations.

I think it may be a comment about the low level of mechanical knowledge of Ford Focus drivers but it's sort of back fired given that some don't have a petrol cap at all.

When they get to the filling station ?

I didn't know this either but having never owned one I didn't feel the need to learn this vital information.....readwobble
Even more mind blowing when they realise it actually tells them on the dash what side it's on.
Now I know a fair bit about cars, models, engines, how to drive them and so on - but I am now worried if I have missed this little nugget of info. Is there a way of telling what side the petrol cap is on from inside the car?

I drive LHD so its on the left, is it as simple as its on the right for RHD? I've driven loads of rentals and never bother to remember/work it out.

Car enthusiasts are, on the whole, tedious bores.

Luckily I know very few people who call themselves petrol heads *shudders*
Couldn't agree more.
I have a few close friends who love cars and motorsport, but I couldn't imagine how dull my life would be if we spent our time together trading stats and testing each other's 'knowledge'.
I love the humour to be found on car enthusiasts forums rofl

But thats a myth! It doesn't apply to all vehicles!

(Unless i've missed an 'in-joke' in which case i apologise unreservedly.)

See the little arrow next to the pump? Tells you filler is on the left.

One of the girls I went to school wrote off her Merc a few days ago and got a Hyundai i10 as a courtesy car.
next thing I see on social media is " I think I've just filled up with the wrong fuel" followed by a pic of the front of the car with "Can anyone tell me what fuel I need to use for this car"

Bearing in mind she has a degree in law, I was disappointed.

This has been discussed on here before.

It doesn't apply to all vehicles.

My best friend once tried to convince me because his Polo had that arrow, that every car in production has an arrow. I insisted my car did not. So I checked, and my car did not.

There was a huuuge thread on here a while back going over it and lots of people checked their cars. I'm sure that in some cases the arrow did not correspond to the position of the filler.

But no, i haven't got any examples to hand, sorry!

Probably a mistake, the arrow definitely indicates which side the filler cap is. But like I said not all cars have this fuel gauge design.

There were spam posts on Facebook and the like going round a while back which said that the actual nozzle on the fuel gauge pointed to which side the fuel filler was on, if the hose and nozzle was on the left side of the pump thats where your filler cap was. Turned out to be rubbish though.

A lot of (not all) modern cars do tend to have a little arrow though pointing in the right direction.

If you know which side your exhaust is on, the filler cap will be on the opposite side. LHD and RHD versions of the same model rarely change the position of the filler cap.

Not only are BMs a clear statement of the driver's success, girls are much more likely to go with a chap in a BM than, say, a Ford because it's a nature thing, they see the BM driver as the Alpha male of the pack.
Ahhh we’ve missed you fella hehe
Hardly surprising though, what with all the girls he is attracting with his BM he is unlikely to have much time to spread his wisdom to the likes of us frown

So if your car has dual exhausts, is the filler cap... on the roof?
