Wow, that's pricy!

This is an interesting move by Land Rover into the luxury/veblen goods market inhabited by the G-Wagen; if they sell at this price point we can expect to see more of the same kind of thing, it might even have an effect on what the new Defender ends up looking like.

Love it, good luck to those that buy one. eek

It's great that mental cars like this are still built when everybody else is trying to be so green.

Will sell, good marketing.

But 400hp and 106mph. Is that a record?
And yet someone has decided that it needs 8 gears!

Isn't this similar to what MG did with the RV8 to generate interest in the new MGF. Maybe new Defender release incoming?

It's quite lovely, but £150k is taking the piss a bit. Still, I'm sure they'll all sell out immediately and be flipped for even more money. biggrin

Why do people get so upset when Land Rover actually build cars that make them some money? Stuff like this helps to boost the brand, sell more cars, make them money and help them keep making cars.

People need to realise that LR isn't about building cars for the handful people that drive a 20 year old shagged out Disco up a muddy lane & hasn't been that company for a very long time.

Love this car, can't possibly afford it but I love it. Here's hoping they do have another 50 shells tucked away so they can do an even more bonkers version in a few years time.

i would have loved to sat in the meeting when they decided on the selling cost...they would know how much it would cost them to produce pretty much down to the pounds and pence, it would just be then an exercise in trying to work out how much people would be prepared to actually pay for it...I would have looked at all the Twisted versions and added a nice fat percentage on for being a limited edition factory certified model....and then i would have added another £20K ontop of that for good measure

If they all sell i bet they are looking at £10M - £12M plus pure profit on 150 cars, very nice too and good luck to them!

250bhp too much, £120k too much.

It's sad that anyone would buy one of these. Horrid, and shows how far Land Rover have fallen.

And the new "defender" won't be a defender at all.. When that's exactly what would sell. People will buy a stylised version of a defender, but plenty more would buy a real defender. Develop your new chassis, stick the same body over it, get on with it. If Jeep can do it..

Seems like Land Rover cottoned on to the demand for high performance Land Rover Defenders. Twisted, JE etc etc were all doing well out of V8 conversions and LR has jumped on the band wagon. However, it smacks a bit of bullying the smaller niche players.

I have driven the 6.2 LS engined 110 by Twisted...and its a beauty. With the correct mods to the suspension and brakes the Defender is very capable.

Christ on a bike, that will be terrifying. I have a 4.6 litre (240 HP) Defender, and subtle it isn’t. 70 is OK, 90 is a bit “white-knuckle” and 100 is really unpleasant. Quite apart from the challenging handling, the wind noise is reminiscent of a flight in a Tiger Moth rather than a car.

They’ll sell like hot cakes though....

I know that JLR still have some reliability issues, but to say how far they have fallen is over the top. They are selling more cars than ever and crucially making money in a very competitive marketplace. They just need to get their quality in order now, oh and the new Disco 5 should have been more like the old one in design. Keep Land Rover design boxy and Range Rover can be all contemporary and sleek.

I think I'd be on the phone to Twisted before buying one of these.

And "Faberge Chicken"? Nic - do you keep a little notebook of tortured similes to dip into at random?

I wonder how many other shells they have in 'storage' as there are plenty of other variants that could be spun off this.

Still, if the demand is there, why not go for it. Easy money after all.

JLR are a business, and the primary goal of a business is to make money. Good on them if they've spotted a market for these and can sell them at that price. If you don't like it, blame the people with more money than sense who buy things like this - they're the ones creating this market. JLR are just making hay while the sun shines.

Please don't turn this into another one of those threads where people waffle a load of crap about how they don't care about brands, it's just makes you look silly!

"heavy-duty differentials" ROFL

A 2.2TDCI is already limited to 90mph and quite unpleasant above 75mph. Adding a 400bhp engine is not about making it faster.
