Engine swap to a smaller one?

Hi I am thinking about buying a Ford Fiesta ST MK6 and then having the Engine swapped for a smaller MK6 1.6l Zetec S engine. Does anyone know the general cost of this? The main reason is I want all the extras and different paint colour that the ST comes with but with a more fuel efficient engine.

Would the road tax and insurance change to that of the Zetec S engine? Or will everything stay the same price?

Why? ST isn’t expensive to run anyway.

It’d cost more in insurance too, with the engine conversion declared anyway I’d think.

I’d be amazed if the N/A 1.6 was even any better on juice. And take account the cost of the conversion and extra insurance, that pretty much equals the dumbest idea possible.

Surely the Ford Fiesta Black Edition would be the best bet, looks like a ST but with 1.0 turbo engine.

They look virtually the same. Add any ST bits you feel you’re missing and be done.

Sigh. Is this some covert way to advertise Ford products? How about buying an RS, waiting for the engine to blow up (which should be in the first 1k or so if driven enthusiastically) and then claim on the warranty but ask for a 1.0 Ecoboost engine instead as they are less likely to blow ..

I would like a zetec s in white but the only ones I'm seeing are crap or over priced. There's a white ST near me that has an engine problem and is around £1000. The engine is around £300 even the MK7 one's are quiet cheap. So the engine and car would cost around £1500 and then add the cost of replacing the engine on top. The average price of a high spec MK6 Zetec S is £2600.

But it seems like it would still be classed as a fiesta st and all the cost with it. The reason why I don't want a Fiesta ST is I read things on this forum like terrible fuel economy and the road tax is £240 which is a lot for a small car.

I have owned a MK6 Zetec S before and got 35mpg around town and 45+mpg on the highway.

I am doing and engine swap on a kitcar, 1.9cvh dropped a valve so it's due a 2l zetec. Not a small job.

Nothing down this avenue is simple. Forgot it I would say, unless you want the project and doing it yourself for the fun.

Just get a Sea Grey Zetec S if you’re set on one. Better colour than any ST colour, was always disappointed I couldn’t get a Grey ST

ST will give 40mpgs on a motorway if you want it to. Tax is £20 a month.

Forget the naysayers, this is an easy job to do yourself. You just need a 6mm Allen key. The engine is held in with 6 bolts, undo those, drop the engine out - careful, it weights just over 20kg, get a friend to help you. Good news is the new engine is only 8kg, so you can do that bit yourself.

Just be careful not to cross thread the Allen bolts when you re-tighten.

If fuel cost is a consideration and you're doing the mileage to justify it/keeping it long enough why not get a 2.0 ST and convert it to LPG, should get an equivalent 50mpg?

Or unicorn tears? They're great. Give at least 75mpg AND they are free (aside from the cost of giving the Unicorn it's weekly Strawberry Frappacino .....DON'T give it the Chocolate Chip one by mistake though, gives it the trots, and you do NOT want to see Unicorn diarrhoea. fk me, it's like molten lava, with sprinkles.)

Also if you have to ask how much it will cost to do then it's too expensive for you. It'll cost more than the car

It’d be cheaper to buy the owner engined model and then retro fit body kit, wheels, suspension, interior etc.

Either way will cost you more than the fuel savings though I would suspect.
