Bought a C6 in 2011. Was intending to keep it for 3-4 years. Still have it and love it. Only real things to go wrong with it (as a tyre blow out and suspension damage due to a deep unlit pot hole in a 50 zone do not really count) are the gearbox (Japanese and used in lots of cars) and the manifold, the latter being annoying as it's a recent failure and they're on back order - despite being shared, along with the engine, with Jaguar (the twin turbo 2.7l diesel). From the forums most C6s are very reliable, however some of the latter 3.0 diesels do seem to be Friday jobs, almost as if the workers didn't care any more, and the older ones are, well older big cars will all the potential problems you start to get.

I actually started looking for one because I felt that the usual steep cliff depreciation would mean I'd get one cheap. What i did not realise was the difference cost wise was only one year when compared to a similar spec E-class merc or BMW 5-series. I suppose all big cars lose lots.

You do occasionally hear about awful rides, wobbling, over soft, but these are all down to the suspension needing sorting. It is robust, but if it goes the balance of the car is really thrown out. Oh and the being able to drive minus one wheel/tyre - happened to me twice. First time was the pot hole mentioned above - only noticed the next morning when I went to drive to work and the front left wheel was flat. Had done ~6 miles of mixed driving post the pot hole the previous evening. The second time was the rear right tyre de-laminating on the inside when in town. I knew what had probably happened straight away, the rear did feel slightly wobbly, but I was still able to safely drive back home, and without damaging the wheel.

As to a new big Citroen - I'm certainly one who will be looking keenly, though if the DS5 or upcoming DS7 are anything to go by, the price will be too high.
