RE: Holden Commodore: Spotted
Discussion
They are basically a RWD Omega, Ironically I loved the omega when in the UK, I loved Monaros and some commodores from the UK, came here and can't stand them (not aided by the fact that every third car is virtually a commodore of some description).
Not bad cars but not particularly great either, comfy and do the job. What you'd expect of an omega I guess. (but bang for buck the hotter models, SS and above, arguably they make a case for themselves) But I'd still rather a 4x4 omega rather than a v6 commodore personally. They seem to trundle on with minimal maintenance to around the 300k kms which is a good innings, funny to see one with miles on the clock, low miles at that.

Since moving to Australia I’ve forgotten how special looking these Commodores would be back in blighty.
I owned a Monaro VXR briefly in the UK and loved it, got loads of attention from enthusiasts, especially during (the frequent) fuel stops. Not at all special in Aus though.
On a plus point they must be very reliable as they're so undertuned - there are so many of them on the roads here, often with 500,000KMs on the odo! They're usually piloted by a mechanically unsympathetic, high-vis vest wearing tradie with his arm out the window, driving about 1cm from the car infront. If they can't break one no one can.
If you're considering a purchase I would get it rust proofed...British winter is not what they were built for.
SO True, few that I speak to at home quite understands how I've gone off the Monaro, but I Guess it's similar to buying a focus ST or something when they came out and then a year or two down the track seeing them bought dirt cheap and slogged at every cornerI owned a Monaro VXR briefly in the UK and loved it, got loads of attention from enthusiasts, especially during (the frequent) fuel stops.
