To me an Alfa should be A) Sporty B) Manual C) A nice bright red colour.
From this thread I now know they're apparently auto, so that's A & B outta the window IMHO
& C) They all seem to be a dull dark red colour which looks even worse this time of year, so much so that they blend in with the usual small exec pack on my commute rather than standing out as I would hope an Alfa would.
TLDR - No.
the dark red is likely comp red...QV specific. interesting where you commute is that your seeing all these nondescript QV's and other Giulia's, i have seen a grand total of 5 giulias (of all the versions) in the wild. Its not sporty, that's why everyone who knows more than us creams their pants over how sporty it is...
moron
As I said 'not sporty IMHO' if yours differs so be it.
& I didn't even need to call anyone names. TTFN.

I saw another bland dark red one this morning actually. I live in the ever crowded south east so the chances of seeing one on my 100 mile daily commute isn't that remote.

Could be Monza red which is very dark and probably a bit bland on a dull day.As I said 'not sporty IMHO' if yours differs so be it.

They do Alfa Red and Competizione Red too though .

On your first statement, nobody ever said that. What we said was that manual gearboxes were a common choice for keen drivers, as demonstrated by the fact that all sports cars are either manual only or have a manual option. Furthermore, all racing cars (true sports cars in the purest definition of the term) are manual. I think I stated very early on that some road going sports cars come with automatic boxes (the NSX mk1 and Exige S spring to mind), but these remain rare options, further compounding the point that many keen drivers (most in those two cases) prefer manual boxes.
All we're saying is that some of us keen drivers prefer manual boxes, even when we've tried the ZF 8 speed box and decent double clutch boxes.
On your second point, yes of course, because the MX5 is a sports car and a Lambo, Ferrari or McLaren is a supercar/GT; therefore the MX5 is more of a sports car than a Lambo etc.
...and then I provided a list of sports cars that were auto only, or mostly auto. All we're saying is that some of us keen drivers prefer manual boxes, even when we've tried the ZF 8 speed box and decent double clutch boxes.

Not quite sure what you definition of a sports car is (unless it is a manual two-seater )
EVO mag described a sports car as "A sports car, or sportscar, is usually two-seat, two-door car designed for spirited performance and nimble handling"
And listed the best 5 sports cars (In March 2017) as:
911 GTS
Audi R8 V10
McLaren 570s
AMG-GT
BMW i8 (?)

the giulia is not a pretty car, its not ugly its more mean looking. does looks a bit 3 series which is a given, but much better imo

Maybe we should rename this thread - "If the Giulia had a manual gearbox, with cup holders, available in any colour you want, and there was a dealer on every street in the land, would you buy one?"
Nah - too bleedin’ common! my 2c.
It looks good, I don’t care about the manual/auto debate, I’m not going to be chasing the last 32’s of a second on the road, and I’ve always struggled to get the hang of h&t anyway.
I can afford to buy one, but I can’t justify it. (I work abroad most weeks & fly out Mon, fly back Thu). Spending £60k on a car that lives at the airport isn’t logical, or financially astute, IMO.
If things change, yes I’d consider one.

If I were in the market for a smart 4 door saloon, Giulia would be the only place my money went, strongly believe that the 156, 159 and now the Giulia have been the best looking cars in their segment and with reliability now from what I can gather much closer to where it needs to be and at times no worse than the equivalent Audi / Merc / BMW I'd have one all day long, obviously a QV ideally but wouldn't baulk at one of the others. Only 'must have' is teledials ....
I was fortunate to test a number of lease cars in our possession at present ; A4, 320d, C350e and the new Arteon by VW. Nobody had a Giulia and I’d never really looked into them until they appeared on the list ( the last Alfa I remember was the 156 in BTCC driven by Gabrielle Tarquini if I remember correctly!).Anyway I hired one for a weekend and was smitten. Sure it was a diesel but it’s lightness and agile ride meant it was streets ahead of anything else in the segment - really impressive.
I’ve had my Speciale since September and have loved every single mile....oh and I got some teledials..........
What are the diesels like?
I'm looking towards them as a next company car; as yet only the GTE Golf makes sense as a hybrid, so a diesel is likely to be the way forward with my current employer.
Is there a real world review out there? I can't find one diesel specific (perhaps searching for the wrong thing...)

Mine is a diesel and having come from two Octavia vRS I can confirm it runs well. Averaging 50mpg even when it’s permanently on D mode. The diesel does clatter however, it’s certainly not refined but then it also manages to feel very much like a petrol with the power band spread out nicely unlike the vRS and previous to that a Leon FR 170bhp where delivery was in the first 2000rpm.

You are right, and have the right to know your preference....however, it is solely subjective AND intangible.
You are right, no autobox knows what it coming next...but no manual box knows what is coming next, both rely on the driver's knowledge/decision of what is coming next!
Actually, in cars like the Rolls Royces and BMW 7 Series that use the ZF box, it uses GPS to know where you are and what the road is going to do for the next few hundred yards and it’ll pick the appropriate gear for the corner. You are right, no autobox knows what it coming next...but no manual box knows what is coming next, both rely on the driver's knowledge/decision of what is coming next!

"Neither does the lack of Noise Vibration & Harshness" ??
At idle the Q.V. will vibrate from the drivetrain. At AMG or M or Audi Sport they’d engineer that out with some dampers or bushings. The Alfa engineers evidently said “fk it Luigi, leave it in, it makes the car feel more alive.” Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
