Looks like a great little car.
Given that power is far below what Ford squeeze from a similar engine, I wonder how long it will take the tuners to offer a remap?
I think the Gti has a re-engineered tsi engine and they already remap that from 88 to 131 Bhp Given that power is far below what Ford squeeze from a similar engine, I wonder how long it will take the tuners to offer a remap?
The ford Ecoboosts remap to different levels, with the most powerful factory version, the 140 going up to over 170 bhp (claimed) so if VW can produce and engine as well as Ford, maybe a 170 bhp Up! is possible, that could be quite nippy.

Interesting, tempted by the UP gti for the commute/fun
Unless the roads on your commute are table smooth you might get fed up with it rather quickly.id say this car was far more than about the 0-60 etc..... for 13,750 you could buy a brand new factory fresh vw GTi with a warranty vw build quality, new registration with that famed GTi badge on it.......most toys you really need leccy windows aircon etc.....
remember it was mooted to have a launch cost of nearer 15,000 late last year. i think this is a bloody bargain and suspect VW wont be able to make them fast enough for demand. cheap to buy cheap to tax cheap to insure economic.......
i would look at pre-owned but rather tempted to just get brand new. love the dark silver.
at least you can own this stylish city gent without 3 men in balaclavas busting into your house at night threatening you for the keys.......which is the latest trend with higher performance machines.
if figures are important then as VW are always conservative with their timings I suggest 8.5 to 62 and 8.1 - 8.3 to 60mph. top speed of 122 is all youll ever need here in the UK. tbh thats plenty even if you wont be able to catch some old spoilsport in his 10 year old passat TD who has spotted you flying up behind then decided to zoom off on you - its missing the point of this car. No matter what you drive there will always be somebody quicker and it can get very boring in the power race. This thing just shouts that it doesnt care about being the fastest it just wants to give you maximum driving pleasure for 95% of the time. I suspect the parping and farting VWs Audis and others with 300bhp plus are fun too but only for 20% of the time.
watch the waitng lists grow for this car........but then you know whatll happen on the back of its success...................

Went down to my local vw today to see if I fit in a normal up before deciding if I should buy a gti.
Turns out they had one delivered yesterday. No one really knew much about it as the website hadn't been updated.
It was a white 5 door.
Got to sit in it and have a poke about which was nice.

The 5 door make it look a bit Fiat/Kei car, definately needs to be 3dr.

Back in 2014 my Dad replaced his Polo with an Up! and I was surprised how roomy it was and actually didn't feel smaller to drive. It was a great little car and I always enjoyed driving it. I don't do many miles these days and may ditch my Scirocco for an Up! GTI.Yeah I was surprised how roomy it was inside.
I have zero interest in new cars as a rule so not much experience so take what I say with a pinch of salt.
Lots of exposed painted metal on the inside like the lupo. If anything I liked it more because of this.
Steering only goes up and down, can't adjust it fore and aft.
Lots of head room, the car feels quite tall and seating position is quite high up but can be adjusted down so no real issue.
I imagine the red dash parts might be divisive. I liked it.
Interior is very sparse, no arm rest. Not much storage bar a glovebox. Again, I liked it more because of its simplicity.
Boot was surprisingly big for what the car is. It ain't big but I was expecting something much much smaller.
Steering wheel is nice and chunky, the gearshift throw is slightly longer than i was expecting but not what you might call excessive. Feels nice and direct though unlike every other vw I've touched which really was quite bad.
Pedals seem nicely set, not too far apart but not quite saxo/106 levels of closeness.
Plastics seem fairly decent quality and switch gear seemed pretty well put together.
Overall the exterior of the car reminds me of a toyota iq for some reason. Quite tall but also slightly wider than the proportions would dictate.
Overall it's made me like it more.

The idea of going back to grass roots with a low power warm hatch that you have to wring its neck, sounds great.
In reality they're sluggish on big roads and if you wring it's neck a lot you look like a tit.
Ok if you're 17 I suppose.
