Comical wheels, even more so than the t roc in the advert. I know 15s can be specified but most will look like the pic above. Anyway, good work on getting the real life photos up so soon clap

This is definitely something that interests me as a commuting car.

Looked at a few normal Up! last year and loved the simplicity of it. Something with a bit more power and smart looks makes the package more enticing.

Definitely a three door for me, heart says big sexy wheels, head says comfortable 15's...

Looking forward to a test drive.

15 inch optional wheels.

Well now I'm interested...
I bet these won't be available in the UK (not from factory anyway) as they are listed with winter tyres I think.
They are sold without rubber so just rims. Sell the original set, get the 15 inch, add some tyres and you should be quids in.
Being serious - wouldn't that affect the warranty? Can't imagine it would take much for a company like VW to wriggle out of that sort of thing.

VW sell plenty of different 15” and 16” wheel options for the up! Can’t see it being a problem myself.

I actually think the 17” wheels suit the one box nature of the design, although it would probably look pretty cool on some steel wheels with winter tyres on biggrin

It's an official option for this model that can be specced together with the car (see the configurator on volkswagen.de).

132 euros per month according to the VW german website... not bad, one with dsg would be a good station car.

I think that looks lovely in white. Interested to hear how it drives. Any pics of the inside, that aren’t adverts?

I hope this is a success as we need more cheap fun to drive light weight low power sporty cars - as I never buy new cars it's not much interest (not yet but will be).

The Lupo Gti was a fantastic thing to drive, one of those cars that unless you'd driven one you'd simply not appreciate how good it would be.
Ive had a couple them both 5 speed and 6 speed and they did remind me of a newer/better version of an old school hot hatch (like 205 gti 1.6 or golf gti early models).

I suspect that's why they held their price so well for so long - as the owners knew they had a special little car.

Sounds like this model has a few things missing to make it as special as the Lupo Gti but will no doubt help keep the costs down and sell more of them.

i owned a 54bhp 1.1 8v cinquecento sporting back in 1996 and it was a riot with that puny power output but still torquey and punchy and no turbo !

i agree that we need more cars like this... i think the Abarths are the next step up really and takes power to a whole new level using 1.4 litres instead of 1 litres.

this GTi should be obtainable for about £13k from a broker. The £12,800 Up 90 TSi can be had for a touch under 12k after discount. Is it worth asking a dealer for a discount these days-can they compete with brokers?

would definitely love to get a good test drive......does anybody rate Johnsons VW in central Birmingham?

Great but will have stiff competition against the forthcoming Suzuki Swift Sport
Surely thats a Polo Gti competitor?
Indeed. Up GTI has the mini hot hatch market all to itself at the moment.
Swift is £13k
Polo is £20k
Up is £13k

I would say the Up competitor is the Swift

One is A size and the other B size though. Someone looking for a compact city car wouldn’t necessarily consider a small 5-door hatchback, regardless of other similarities.

Correct me if I'm wrong, however isn't this "A" and "B" size stuff just a bit of marketing / manufacturer definitions for classes, without absolute specifications for dimensions; nowhere near as prescriptive as the Japanese Kei Car city regulations for taxation for example.

Can't speak for most people, and definitely can't speak for those buying new city cars, however from experiences through family members who're by their own admission, not the most confident drivers, their choices are steered more by how easy a car feels to driver and park.

We've all had cars who's dimensions are modest, however are a bit of a pain to park and use in cities (coupes with longer "invisible" overhangs), and larger cars which are a joy to use on a daily basis due to their shape and visibility (contrary to hardened haters rhetoric, this is why a big square chunky SUV with huge mirrors and elevated view can be a joy to pilot is tight and congested urban routes)

You're right in that there is no formal definition of each class, however there is no denying that an up! is a fair bit smaller than a Swift, 25cm in length and 10cm in width.
