My wife had an VW Up! as a hire car last week. Although a lot poorer specced, it was a major step up in terms of quality and dynamics compared to the usual Renault, Vauxhaul and Peugot budget hire car offerings.

She would like to get one, though she she keeps referring to them as a VW "U P I" hehe

Have also noticed that the GTI has appeared on Drive The Deal with a £1635 discount, including the £500 PCP dealer contribution, meaning a basic three door is £12114.
Would you still finance through VWFS, at their 4.9% APR?

Not used a broker before.

You have to take out the PCP finance to take advantage of the £500 dealer contribution, but you can settle within 30 days, meaning you could finance the remaining amount at a better rate.

All the broker does is negotiate the discount with the dealer. It's up to you then to do the financial transaction with the supplying dealer.

Some initial lease figures have been released....

3 door, 3+35, 10k, £185+VAT

5 door, 3+35, 10k, £189+VAT

Guessing those would be standard cars in red.
That's loads. I hate to say the obvious, I leased a Golf R for about the same.

Was hoping around the £130 mark.

You do realise that amortises to £234 a month? That’s nothing like Golf R money. Agreed though, it’s not great value, but then I don’t think they need to subsidise this car.

So assuming it was over two years, you were paying £270 a month.

As I said. Not a great deal when I got an R for just £35 a month extra.

I’ve taken advatange of cheap VW leases deals, but I don’t make the assumption that just because they made some cars available for next to nothing, that they’ll do it with everything they bring out. It’s just daft.

It’s not a deal. It’s what they are prepared to lease one to you for.

Would love to hear your thinking around it being £130, especially with it being a brand new model.

There seems to be this common theme where people think that just because VW heavily discounted Golf Rs on a few occasions, that every car they offer will be similarly subsidised.

I was told a lead time of approx 12 weeks today

Bugger,
that's pretty much the standard lead time for a new german car with no waiting list ordered to spec, my R32, Polo GTi and A45 all took 3 months from order to be built and delivered

my second RS3 took 6 months ...

I think these wheels will be very sought after by the VW fraternity for older stuff (if it'll fit them)

Secure them well, chaps and chapesses.
I was thinking that as well. Reminiscent of the old BBS RC, which was very popular in the 90s / early noughties. I was thinking they would probably suit a MK5 GTI, but as far as I can tell the Up's 17" 'Oswald' wheels are 4x100. So MK2s and MK1s, Corrados, MK1/MK2 Sciroccos etc.

So about half a Golf R - which is now nearer £400 amortised a month.

So the price is about right.

The mental Golf R prices were one offs, only the Cupras seem to be performance bargains nowadays.

And the BMW M140i, I've seen them on here for <£300 for a 3+36.
