I must say, the warranty does seem like a very good thing, but does a Hyundai / Kia becomes almost worthless the moment it turns 8 years old? It’s USP has just disappeared! eek
There's a decent chance that in those 7 years maintenance was done regularly.
The flipside to that is if you get an eight year old one it will more than likely have full dealer history as they'll have done this to keep the warranty.

As for servicing prices they're in line with Ford Honda etc, the unlimited mileage warranty from Mercedes/BMW is only for three years at which point Kia's Warranty seems fair (I'd be interested to see what percentage of buyers breach 100+k within three years) enough.

I do think it's time that the bigger manufacturers stepped up to 4-5 years, especially those that offer PCP over 4 years - unwarrantied for the last year!
No silly it's at that point they take some more money out of your pocket as you extend the warranty. smile

They don't require a main dealer service history to maintain the warranty - that would be illegal. My experience of Kia dealers (via my parents, who have a Picanto) is that they're pretty good and cheap enough to make servicing at an independent a bit pointless anyway.

The anti-corrosion warranty, however, does require regular Kia dealer inspections to maintain it.

The '7 year warranty' isn't worth the paper it's printed on!

So many terms and conditions in the small print, most things are not covered for 7 years.

Most? Behave.

http://www.kia.com/uk/innovation/7-year-warranty/t...

Audio units (3yrs), batteries/air con gas (2yrs) that's about it. Rest are standard exclusions with all warranties.... If it's modified, if mileage has been tampered with etc.

Recently had 2 headlights replaced on mine at 4yrs/60k. No quibble at all.

Is it such a big deal these days? Granted with Kia you don't have to pay extra for it, but warranty extensions are not necessarily expensive in the grand scheme of things. I think my three year extension on my Focus was £699 when I bought the car last year. Definitely not something I'd be interested in talking about unless someone was asking for advice on whether they were worth it or not.

With crashing my car last Tuesday and waiting on insurance Co to get their finger out to value it, I've been given a Hyaundi i20 by my sister to drive.

She bought it via auction in england and imported it to ROI. Whilst driving it for the first few weeks she noticed the coolant level needing to be topped up at about half a litre a week.
Quick call to nearer hyaundi dealer, car inspected and booked in for a radiator change all carried out under warranty foc by dealer.

Couldnt beat that for service on a five year old car!

In terms of using it as bragging rights, its a bit dull if the most interesting thing a person can say about their car is the length of the warranty.....

It's been fab for me. Plenty of bits and bobs on a car that's had a hard working life (on and off road works sites all day full of gear and driven in site boots), not once has the warranty questioned anything. Except for tyres and 3 services, I have literally spent nothing on maintenance in 70k miles since 2012, any failures (headlights, odd parking sensors, rear view camera) have been completely covered. For pure cheap utility driving (cos it ain't in any way fast), it is utterly unbeatable IMO.

Theres still a large percentage of the population who neither care about A) Cars in general B) Looking good to the neighbours/social media
To these people warranty and running costs are everything.

Kias 7 year warranty on approved used cars maybe enough to get my OH mother out of a Ford fiesta (got a nearly new one every 3 years) and into a Rio. I'm very glad, means I don't have to keep giving her advice on getting things sorted!

Compared to what? Do you have an example?

My Mrs has a little 1.25 petrol Kia, bought with a service pack for 3 years at a cost of £299. £100 per year for full main dealer service - how much less do you pay for yours?!
Yep, servicing pack makes it cheap, but the packs were only available on the Picanto and Rio when I worked as a salesman for Kia. My grandad runs a new Cee'd and was quoted circa £400 for a service last year and my dad has a Venga. Again quoted nearly the same for a run of the mill service. May just be the garage I used to work at. Who knows.

Just looked on the Kia website and for the current Ceed you can purchase a package for the first 3 services for £329 or for the first 5 services the package will cost £609. Venga is exactly the same. Doesn't sound expensive to me !

Cee'd was exdemo, pre Reg. Couldn't get the servicing pack for it. Venga is 4 years old, outdide of its pack time.

Buy pack - cheap. Don't buy pack - expensive.

Expensive or average? I don't really have a feel for how much servicing costs these days since I service my own cars.

Random 2103 Ceed 1.6D from Autotrader
£259 for 40K Service
£59 for 50K Service

And gives prices for Brakes and other bits.

£400 sounds like they were talked into other work as well as Standard Service.

Currently running a '61 Cee'd 1.6 diesel.

Done 23k in the last year, literally spending 99% of its time on M6/M65. I had to drop it off at Kia for some warranty work a few months back, they must have spent a good few hours adjusting something to do with the clutch/slave as it wasn't going into gear - the kind of job that would set you back £500+ at a dealership. Handed back three days later without any questions whatsoever and no bill to speak of. I have to be honest, I had been thinking of flogging it for a 320d but I literally just need this thing for A to B commuting and it's literally costing me buttons. Bought for around £5k and will likely be dropping at depreciating at between £100 a month by the time I sell it (privately); just cannot justify leasing at all (looking at 25k mileage deals... lol).

I'd love it to break badly and therefore have a good excuse to get something lovely & new but this thing just won't break. Despite my best efforts. Very unexciting but as a value proposition it wins easily. Peace of mind.

Oh indeed. However relative to the thread topic i personally still wouldnt consider bragging about it. smile
