the most ridiculous diesel car ever must be Smart CDI, now they are banned from german city centers since they don't meet Euro 6 emissions and it certainly is the only purpose for such a car

a petrol version will return >40 mpg yet for some people it wasn't enough so they paid more for a diesel and it's usually driven 20 miles a day on average...now they can throw it away

I felt the 520d needed a much stronger engine to be fair, I always thought my E92 M3 felt heavy(1650kg) at low speeds, but when pushing on it did seem to hide its weight pretty well. I noticed the weight of the M3 when you used the brakes hard at speed though.

Anyway, diesels are the least of our worries, it is those selfish plebs with log burners that are killing us all.

Yes. But it was never mandatory. Especially if you lived in a city and did lots of short journeys. In which case it was (a) dumb and (b) antisocial

I don't know what you are on about. I just don't like the noise, smell and unnecessary pollution being caused by skinflints driving cold diesels for endless short journeys around congested cities.

It's the wrong use.

Actually, my bad.. I did a quick search after and there seems to be a bigger difference in weight between, the e90 and e92 330d and the e60 and e61 530d, than I thought. In my head I was comparing e92 vs e60.. My 530d came in at 1690kg on the scales, and book figures for the e92 330d seem to come back as 1600kg+ but the e90 figures seem to be in the 1500s .. odd.. I thought the magic numbers might be down to the e60s aluminium front end.

I think the M3 feels heavy at low speed, in the same way I felt the Cerbera did, and put it down to sticky wide front tyres. Both felt/feel very nimble once moving.

We have similar taste in cars and we've both had a S14a 200sx/Cerbera/E92 M3. thumbup

I do like a car to weigh around the 1200kg mark like the 200/Cerb, I know it's wrong to compare the M3 to those two but I did feel that the M3 was a heavy beast in comparison. The extra weight of the M3 did help make it feel very stable at high speed though.

Today I waved goodbye to my diesel. Down to three petrols and one diesel.

We have an X3 petrol now on order so we may become soon an all petrol household.

No plans to go electric or even hybrid so the Governments hasty ill informed rash decision, has worked well.

Roll on 450bhp M4 as my daily car.

Of course the government won, they told us to buy them in the first place and it's all irrelevant until you look at the mileage.

We'll all get petrols now and then they will tax us and say we must buy electric.

That’s right and when enough of us have electric the terrible ( yet to be finalised) bad electric thing will be discovered that needs to be discouraged.

All forms of transport have an impact on the environment, so as the masses move towards any particular form, then the impact of everyone using that mode of transport increases, therefore they must dissuade us from using it by taxing us more rolleyes

Isnt CO2 up already because of the move away from diesels?

There seem to be some manufacturers stopping (temporarily?) making certain petrol variants to keep their CO2 average down - MINI apparently are the latest with the JCW (stopping production in May according to dealers). BMW and Audi are rumoured to be doing it too?

The problem is the Government have been misadvised completely.
They tax cars on one parameter and that is CO2.
Diesel cars have lower CO2 emmisions, but far higher particular and NOX for instance.
It has been proven to rot buildings, cause cancer and even asthma in kids in on the increase and still we continue to buy the horrible things.
Its criminal what the government get away with.

They tax me £520 a year for my WRX STI, which does about 5k miles a year.
Someone in a diesel is actually polluting the air far more than me doing 100k a year with very low tax, but based on CO2 alone my car is taxed more.
We are run by idiots. that are doing more harm to the environment.
