He doesn't know yet.
He knows it's worked on the A77 and the A9 by the sounds of that quote.

45% reduction in fatalities on the A9 according to this: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-tayside-centra... admittedly, only 1 year of data but it looks good.

A77 has seen a reduction of 77% in fatalities and 74% in serious injury since 2005: http://www.safetycameras.gov.scot/news-publication... admittedly, some of this will be down to the general improvement in car safety over the period.

The evidence of these is pretty compelling.

As an aside, the "looking at the speedo constantly" argument is totally specious. Just glance at the speedo every so often in the same way as you would your mirrors.

The fact that cars over-read actual speed means it’s not quite as bad as it seems. You can generally sit at 75-77 indicated mph and not be done.

It really is a pain in the arse without cruise control for 50+ miles though.

Every average speed zone is a shambles.
A lot of truth in this. What little lane discipline we have in this country totally disappears in average speed check zones. Although if everyone actually drove at the speed limit (that's 70 not 65), that wouldn't be such a problem!

Driver behaviour 'transformed'?

Is the road any safer now?

Not sure I'd have claimed anything had been 'transformed' if there was no proof of any benefit.

I think he's been premature.

Problem is by getting the validation they wanted, they will extend it to every road regardless
They can't afford that.
So, what you're saying is "speed cameras are there to extract money" is horsest?

Either the government profits off speed cameras OR it can't afford to put more in.

Used to live in Aberdeen and plenty of speeding idiots with big oil industry salaries and cars and small brains driving like tts, so I think the cameras are probably a good thing.

Sadly as usual in Britain the feckless idiots are ruining it for the intelligent life forms....
