Sounds a lot until you see that revenue for RS sales in the UK alone would be £200m and for global sales probably over the £1billion (I used a rough avg of £34k for cars just for sts and giggles)
It can’t be spun into a positive. Revenue is not profit, per unit the margins aren’t huge. This won’t be an ‘oh well never mind’ type of meeting at Ford. Not to mention the knock on affect it has for confidence in the brand, both new and secondhand. yonex said:

Ford missed their profit targets last year as well , they are / were doing better than in 2016 but they are not in a great position, I think 2018 is going to be a very tough year generally for car makers and having to spend this kind of money at a difficult time is less than ideal but perhaps better than the alternatives
Generally, the warranty bill is separated from the general profits, but there's a huge drive in general to reduce warranty spend in the car industry. Unfortunately, it's slightly at odds with the pace of new technology development, and the conflicting drive to reduce product development times to beat each other to market. As you say, it's going to be a tough few years coming up for manufacturers!

Private sales on AT from £22900.
Wow for the mk3 that’s cheap if not galactic mileage If not a Cat car then it's lost £7k in 2 years, so it's done pretty good for a new car but also a pretty good used purchase at that price.
That has now sold, although there is another Nitrous Blue with 24k one for sale in Manchester for £23k with a Mountune upgrade.
Spec looks good.

New tyres and wheel repair would be £500+ before you even start, then there might be stone chips, other defects etc.
Also, let's not forget early cars were sub £30k so for a car of this type doing 12k miles a year and only losing £3,500 a year is pretty remarkable, how much would an Golf R / S3 / A45 lose in similar circumstances?
Actually, I'll answer that, my 2 year old Golf R with 27k miles lost £13k in value

Just bringing context into the numbers, that all There is now 'talk' that Ford have had to put this repair programme on hold due to parts stock issues.
A lot of owners have been booking their cars in without having received a letter from Ford first, and now Ford have ran out of the parts!
My RS hasn't been booked in yet, I haven't had a letter from Ford.

Only on Pistonheads can a car company, doing absolutely the right thing, cause a 12 page debate.
This is the UK, failure and half assed ness are the national obsessions. So when a manufacturer gets it very wrong, there is a collective group hysterical wkfest. Its also a majority opinion and trend on threads that negativity and being generally down beat is seen to be the norm.My own opinion, must be terribly embarrassing for Ford and it will damage some future sales. Long term it won't matter. At least they are doing something about it.

Can you extend the manufacturers warranty on them to five years?
https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/my-vehicle/warranties...
Looks like you can only do it when you first register the car. A shame really.

You only have to look at how many are for sale, I suppose everybody is selling a belting car?
There was plenty for sale before any recall, just to give a context there's 121 Focus RS from 2016 onwards, there's 153 2016 onwards Audi S3 adverts on here currently. There's about 5500 - 6000 registered in the UK so 2% of Focus RS MK3 for sale give or take imho
Real shame all this . The RS3 is a cracking car for the money especially a used one now but the hysteria surrounding the engine issues have damaged its reputation for reliability and Ford are to blame.
I’d have previously bought the focus over a golf but now I think I’d go buy the golf just for peace of mind and hassle free motoring

Out of curiosity, have any RS owners on here actually had the recall carried out yet. I'm not yet aware of one. Although I am aware of one in bits in a garage in the south east awaiting an engine that may never turn up.
I'll admit I know feck all about engines but surely driving around in one for this long with this issues is 1) not good for the car and 2) going to depreciate the feck out of it even more once a buyer realises that?
