The Wagoneer is most definitely an SUV/4x4. Solid axles front and rear with a proper transfer case and low range.
The Range Rover also wasn't luxurious when it first came out.

Indeed, the Range Rover was intended to be driven in wellies and hosed-out once a week. It was like sitting in a washing-up bowl.

PLEASEeee start an owners thread. I've got a huge thing for Wagoneers. Never been anywhere near one, but it's Want Level 11 for me.

(clearly MILES more luxurious than an early Range Rover...)
Will do soon!
Mine's a Final Edition 1991.
Where in the UK are you? More than welcome to take a look if you're passing by.

Sorry for off-topic.
Worryingly close! (worrying for you, that is)

Very generous of you. Sadly the conditions of my release included a very clear line about not meeting men from the internet.

Even (especially) ones with very cool cars.

Understandable. I'm just looking to bore anyone who'll listen!

No, but I do use my Range Rover off road. Which 99% of people don't I suspect.
I think you've hit the nail on the head there. This car isn't designed for you, strangely enough they've designed it for 99% of their customers - shock horror car manufacturer designs car that people want, how dare they!

It's supposed to pay homage to the original two-door Range Rover. Not a bad idea.

In the picture it looks like it's a four door.

...ehm...
Looks like 4 doors, which is a lot less interesting than 2 doors .... the definition of Coupe has been stretched a little of late though by the Germans ....
What makes you say it looks like a 4 door? Definitely looks like a 2 door to me.

Only a front set of interior handles, only one door shut gap just behind the driver seat. What looks like a floor step to get into the back.

Also the spy shots of it on the snow show a very fake looking rear door.

Hmmm.

I've seen the concept "stormer" from many years ago and if the latest incarnation looks like this then excellent work.

However there seems to be confusion of this paying homage to the original. It's not. It's an all new vehicle to compete against the x6 and the lambo thing. And obviously to create a vehicle at 260k+ just because they can, just because it will be sold out.

Also worth noting, if they took the current shape made it 2 door with a hose down interior, big buttons you can operate while wearing leather gloves, v8 petrol engine, manual gearbox then sign me up.

It’s not an all new car and it is not there to compete against X6 (!) nor the Urus, its a bespoke 3 door Range Rover with an astounding price tag.

Great to see LR capitalising on its history.

A fitting reminder to the European lovers, where the luxury SUV format was born.
I thought that honour went to the Jeep Wagoneer, about 8 years before the Range Rover.
ETA: Sorry, seven years.

4 pages in and no angry posts about feeling threatened by women driving around in an expensive car?

No comments about them being Indian?

Nothing about them breaking down every three seconds unlike the superior German cars?

Nothing about a Honda Jazz being better off-road or more luxurious?

Nothing about swarthy types or orange people?

Is PH broken?

Where’s all the poverty spec MGTOW Brexit rage being channeled his morning???? biggrin

The jeep had cart springs and was scaled down truck, like the suburban etc.... the RR was more innovative and luxury orientated with fulltime 4wd and coils for comfort.
Both had an exceptionally shelf life though.

Just like the Landie took inspiration from the Willis, the Rangie was about opening up sales in the US and Spencer King looked to the US market for inspiration with the Wagoneer being the vehicle he used to justify his argument that there was a market for passenger 4x4s and not just working 4x4. Even the Rostyle steels of the Rangie are licensed copies of American Racing 500s.

The Rangie was far more technologically advanced than anything in the US when it appeared but the first factory Rangies that were categorically ‘luxury’ didn’t arrive until the early 80s. The In Vogue of 80/81 is the first Rangie ever built specifically for luxury with Wood & Pickett walnut door cappings, more carpeted areas and a bespoke picnic hamper. That’s the car that defined the luxury SUV market.

The Rangie when it launched was infinitely more luxurious than almost all 4x4s as it was designed as a passenger vehicle and its ride made it more luxurious than most others but it still had a ‘working’ interior unlike vehicles like the Wagoneer which was specifically trying to compete with the US sedan market.

It’s hard to argue that the Rangie was the first luxury 4x4 but it’s definitely the vehicle that defined the segment.

There’s a grouse shoot in Yorkshire that still uses a Tickford Landie as a gun bus.

I think you are correct - I was mainly going by the fact that the front door looks like a normal sized front door making rear ingress quite tight. Had another look at the pic and it does indeed look like there is no rear door - so that could be quite a cool then, always been a big fan of 2 door 4x4s

Germans? Range Rover?
Various 4 door cars that are supposedly Coupes - eg BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, 6 Series Gran Coupé, X4, X6 and so on
