I took a new RS4 Avant and S5 (Same engine as S4 Avant) out yesterday for a test drive. Please keep in mind I'm currently driving a 12 year old Land Rover Defender 110 (and will be keeping it). However, previous cars have been 911 C4S, 1.9Gti, Prelude VTEC's.

I can say that RS4 pulls like a tiger. I personally would have preferred perhaps a little more aggressive styling, but that's not what they are attempting to achieve, equally, a little more growl from the engine. But, again, this is not what this car is about.

With three of us in the car it just tore up the roads. However, put it into comfort, a totally different beast, nice, normal car, you just need to push your foot down a little further to wake it up.

My main concern is that when I drove the S5, to compare the engine of the S4 Avant, it had more than enough grunt for my driving abilities, it is also £20k cheaper (before options).

So, it's now down to getting a decent deal on a new S4 Avant, or getting a second hand (demo) S4 with like 10k on the clock for £36-£38k ish.

And try not to look at the 2015 S8's you can get for £35k at the moment. However, I need an estate.

Equally, I can see a driving licences going away very quickly with the lovely RS4 Avant.

The c63 is so much more stylish I think, and I prefer the interior - its far more understated than the RS4. MB put almost everything you want into the standard kit + premium package (providing you want the sunroof), where as you need to spend a good amount of money on the Audi. Then there is the engine... dont expect to get better than 18 MPG combined though...
