Too heavy and don't want such a new car (depreciation).

A Vette is the only car that ticks all the boxes for me I think except the RHD one.

Would have a Cerbera if I wasn't scared of the costs associated, but think I'll end up settling for a 5.0 XKR - that does mean compromising on weight and rawness though.
Reading this thread I think i've worked out where you live - the year 1992, when it was still just about possible to go around zipping past traffic here and there. If you're overtaking is that essential and frequent then I agree, a Vette is not for you. In reality now i'm a matureish chap i've realised that if I drive around wazzing past people I get where i'm going about 500 yds quicker. If it's the odd overtake, who cares?

Seriously though dude, you sound like you want one so just do it! You may have to wait a few bananas to make your overtake, think about lining up at junctions at an angle etc etc but jesus man - just listen to the fking thing!

I know the thread has moved on but this is about the worst buyers guide I have seen.

The C6 is an absolute bargain in all it's guises and my modified coupe still pulls like a train approaching 110k miles.

There's too many people who drive 10mph below the limit for overtaking not to be essential and frequent. It's not really about getting to my destination quicker though, I just enjoy overtaking, so anything that impedes that, even if only slightly, is a pretty big disadvantage frown

They sound great, they look great, they go great, but...

A well executed overtake in a Vette is more satisfying because it requires more skill. If it's the overtaking you like as opposed to actually making progress.........

Are they actually that fun /sharp as standard? I always thought they were a bit of a boat. And what do they really offer over an AMG etc?

Bit of a boat? You've never driven one, have you?

They aren't the sharpest thing, but my standard manual C6 always kept up with the almost new M4 over many laps of Anglesey.

I've had a 4.2 Cerbera for the last few years and love it, but I would definitely consider a C6 if they ever make it into my price range. I think they look fantastic and the running costs sound good too. I also have a huge soft spot for the C4 aswell but not enough to let the Cerbera go.

I had a 5.0XKR too, great cars but something didn't feel right, unable to put the finger on it but whilst the composure was good, I felt a little disconnected from the front end of the car. But the noise, the noise alone is worth overlooking that. Fast GT, the z06 was a racer with road seats and zircon.

W204 C63 is almost 200kg heavier than a C6, and over 300kg heaver than the Z06.

Mercs are boats, Vettes are sports cars.

Steering too light? Or just something to do with the suspension?

I’m a big TVR fan so don’t take me wrong on this but I consider the C6 is the thinking mans TVR. All the rear drive, good looking, earth shattering noise but with the reliability and parts availability of a major manufacturer.

Having a competent traction control system and active handling is far more important with 400+ bhp through large section summer rubber than being able to exploit another 10% of overtake opportunities.

One day i’ll have a Cerb too tho!

I went the other way, from a Cerb 4.5 to a C5 Z06. It was a refreshing change to know that I was going to reach my destination, and that the car wouldn't be in the garage every 2-3 months. Never looked back, and am now on my 3rd Z.

I went tvr to Corvette too. No contest. Corvette delivers on the promise like tvrs never do.

The z06 is a totally different car to the xkr as said. mine murders my Bros 5.0 xkr and is a lot more raw to drive. totally different performance bracket really.

First time I tripped to the 24 heure back in 04 I recall a lot of TVRs and VW campers at the side of the autoroute with bonnets up!

I was just doing well enough in life back then to be considering a 2nd hand Cerb in a serious way.

That was the first time I witnessed the yellow thunder and I’ve never looked back! Big fan, bit nerdy with it tbh.

Would never swap the Vette for Cerb but might have to scratch the itch one day. I am fully of mind it will be a dissapointment.

No but the C6 hasn't had great reviews for its dynamics. The latest ZR1 does look a very attractive proposition though.

Is the ZR1 really 100KG lighter than standard?

The ZR1 Isn't actually much lighter than standard.

The Z06 is 100kg lighter than standard due to an aly frame (rather than standard steel) and carbon panels (rather than full FRP) among other stuff, but although the ZR1 has even more CF panels, it has a heavy supercharger and heavier suspension, drivetrain and wheels, so ends up weighing about the same as standard, albeit with an extra 200+ bhp)
