The latest ZR1 does look a very attractive proposition though.
Which car are you talking about??
The C7.

I had a 5.0XKR too, great cars but something didn't feel right, unable to put the finger on it but whilst the composure was good, I felt a little disconnected from the front end of the car. But the noise, the noise alone is worth overlooking that. Fast GT, the z06 was a racer with road seats and zircon.
Steering too light? Or just something to do with the suspension?
Steering is light but responsive, it weights up nicely but it isn't track car positive. I just never felt I knew exactly what the front end was doing, that and the rear e-diff just didn't fill me with the confidence I hoped.

That said, it was a terrific car to do sporty continental blasts. The suspension was really well weighted/srpung (yes I know its air), The perversity of it was that if you really pushed on, it inspired more and more confidence but it at normal speeds it was direct just with little feedback.

Always wanted a corvette , think it came from having a toy one at 5 year old ( ATeams car). After 3 years in an Elise, 3 years in an Exige then 2 and half in the Sagaris I had a break from sports cars.
During the break I had a hire car on holiday in Canada. After a couple of days LHD was second nature. They say say a decent driver can swap between LHD and RHD no problem oh and if uv got 505+hp just hang back to overtake, what’s to worry with the corvettes performance and brakes.

When I started thinking of my next sports car for home in Scotland I went with the Vette (z06).
Took a while but found one.

So I’ve owned 3 other sports cars. Reselling money not included but If some1 offered me all 3 cars for my Z06 ... I’d tell them to get lost.

The corvette is simply Awesome . I’ve also driven atoms , 911s , Aston , lambos, Ferrari’s and many others but the Vette is up above or up there.
It’s a 10 year old car but gets more attention than my old 3 ever got.
Will hit 200mph ( it will) , looks good , good handling especially on wide smoother roads. Increased in value, lots of boot space and that noise ( with a borla)

I love it and can’t justify swapping it for anything!
My wife would like a 3rd seat in it so she can come with me and my son but am happy with the 2 lol

Is that a Ron Fellows edition? Looks very much like the one I drove in Dubai.

Thats rather subjective.
The LS3 in the Camaro was okay, but carrying was dragging around a lot more weight than the Vette with the same engine, the LS7 on the other hand in the Vette is a whole other league
The visibility was shocking
It was nice as a cruiser but never a sports cart.

I owned both, the Camaro sits between toy and everyday car, but the visibility does let it down.
The Vette on the other hand was 100% toy and epic

ETA Scottie Ade sold me the Vette so he could buy a supercharged Camaro......
Silly old sod!

Definitely regret having not managed to get a drive in the Camaro, 5th or 6th Gen, before putting the money down on my Mustang. The RHD was just too easy to say yes to. One day, I’ll manage to drive a Camaro smile

Bloody article - while I can't afford a C6 it is, again, making me think of a C5....

C5 is hugely underrated and undervalued at the moment IMO. The hardest thing in the UK is finding a manual which is nigh on impossible.

The exchange rate has not been so bad recently so import is viable to get something specific - if its something you're happy to go through.

Its not for everyone though - obviously. Always several nervous weeks when you have parted with not insignificant funds and hoping a decent car turns up that you've never actually seen.

Ideally, I would follow the purchase with a US holiday to collect the car, enjoy it for a week or two in the US, and personally deliver it to the shipping port. But that's just me, and I do understand that other folks have different priorities.
Yup, exactly what I have just done, a superb experience and way of saving money on what I could have bought in the UK (given that it had to be a manual).

What about insurance though, thought that that would be a bh?

Useful stuff there Unsprung - thanks for posting.

Fishy Dave - any input from you given you have done this recently? Or even still in the process of doing it!

Yes indeed. Given the rate my XKR was dispatching everyone else when at WOT down a runway, the Vette positively flew post me. Not sure about speeds, but certainly well beyond 150... I could blame poor tyres and lacking driver skill on my part but in truth the Vette just represents a whole other level of speed. Savage.

Hey Commander wavey

Managed to fall in love with the XKR a little more or still craving something a bit more sporty?

Corvette? Apollo 440 summed it up nicely, "Raw power, more power, foot to the floor power!"
