RE: Porsche 959: Time for Tea
Discussion
I had both the poster and that Car magazine -iirc it also had the Aston vantage zagato in it - those were the days!
And I think it was a performance car mag of the same era - had a trio of bmw Ms - M1, M3 & M5 in red, white and silver on the cover. Imagine how much that lot is worth now (although nothing next to a 959!)

In 1988 I was fortunate enough to be taken out in a friend’s 959. As I was a previous owner of several 911’s , I was expecting serious performance, but the reality was WAY beyond that!! When the second turbo kicked in, it was absolutely brutal against any other road car I had experienced ( including Carrera RS and RSR).
Will never forget the experience.

Always fancied these and that's coming from a non Porsche lover. Should really be compared to the Ferrari 288 GTO rather than the later F40 though.
I remember following the Ecurie Ecosse Tour for wealthy classic car lovers through the Highlands of Scotland in the late 1980s. We were relative paupers in my Dad's V12 E-Type. There were some exotic cars up there including Alfa Monza, Maserati 300S, D-Type Jaguar, Ferrari Daytona Competition and a Lotus 47.
amongst all the old stuff was a white 959. I think it was entered because the owner's original classic entry had let him down, but I might be mistaken. Anyway amongst the "changeable" weather (sun, rain, fog, sleet etc.), the 959 driver had a very comfortable time compared to the poor buggers in their open sports racers. It was so sure-footed and fast in all conditions. Remarkable machine.

It was 12-14 May 1989 and I think it was the owner’s 288GTO which let him down at the last minute, so he jumped in the 959...
Just about the only German car for which I feel any love.
I reckon this must top the list of the "If you could only have one car, what would it be?" list. Quick enough to see off most opposition and apparently they're just about as fast in atrocious weather conditions as they are in the dry, due to clever electronics.
I love the "911 left under a heatlamp" looks too.

I recently found a 959 poster that I had on my bedroom wall when I was at school, I'm 46 now!
DELETED: Comment made by a member who's account has been deleted. And an Athena one of the car with the 1DOL number plate.
I am also the same age!

I also had a poster featuring one of these.... I agonised over the selection for what felt like hours (while my mum looked on grumpily) in Athena.
Mine had a Countach, a 959 and (I think) a 288GTO with the (hilarious) strap line; 'Decisions, Decisions, Decisions'.
Magnificent.

As a kid loved these. Remember the Tamiya RC 959 rally car with 4wd?
Time passed and I had long forgotten the 959 until one summers day I around 15 years ago I disembarked off a roundabout to head up a long quiet straight Nottinghamshire A road in Robin Hood land.
Flooring my 300zx I thus overtook 2 chavy hatchbacks feeling good. Whilst my foot was still bedded into the carpet a superbike of some sorts was up my backside hence after shuffling to the left (still floored) screamed passed me. Tailing this bike was a white 959 in all the livery, the bikealist had to pull left and Porsche just left us all.
Not only did it look and sound wonderful, never have I seen a car shift so quick on public roads.
This is like an automotive version of that famous SR-71 speed check story!Time passed and I had long forgotten the 959 until one summers day I around 15 years ago I disembarked off a roundabout to head up a long quiet straight Nottinghamshire A road in Robin Hood land.

In the late eighties my route back from the pub took me past the lovely Bramley Garage in Surrey. They once had three 959s in there, black, white and red.
It was all lit up at night and you could wander around peering in at the motors. One evening I made the mistake of parking up there with a girlfriend in the car, she misread my intentions, must have been expecting some amorous fumbling, she got very upset when I asked if she wanted to come and look at the Porsches.
