The one article I've been looking forward to reading the most and it's like reading Arabic.

Like it, could be seriously tempted, especially with the manual gearbox....

Lot of bleating about the writing style - not as bad as his previous efforts I have to say. Nowt wrong with a bit of prose... I'll be very interested to see the comparison to a CTR. That and how the Trophy is going to turn out...

Good that they haven't screwed it up and doubly good that they didn't do "a Clio" with it and saddle it with EDC as the only transmission option. But who's going to buy the 280hp version when the Trophy version is going to offer 300hp and has the benefit of allowing some time to shake the "new model" bugs out? I'd be waiting for the Trophy for sure.

Let’s just pray that Cackett doesn’t write the review.

Assuming the initial model is making 280HP and not more! The original road test figures achieved by the first batch of Megane 250s, weren't beaten by the subsequent 265 models.....even the last of the line 275 model was scarcely quicker!

Second sentence of the article uses the word 'because' three times.

That's just poor.

I hope the site editor reads these comments in more detail than they did to sign that pathetic review off.
I believe he is the site editor.

Regrettably.

Don;t expect the editor to review and change the article, sadly he is the editor.....

"Nic Cackett has been appointed editor at PistonHeads.com. Nic was previously deputy reviews editor at What Car? and Autocar."

http://www.vuelio.com/uk/blog/uk-4-october-2017/

First Trent, now Cackett. Pistonheads has went way way downhill over the last few years. It's a proper shame as it's turning into a glorified Car Throttle......

I can't remember which forum it was on (not sure if it was oh PH) but i remember a thread talking about the RS 250 when it was relatively new, so that was back in 2010 / 2011ish. Maybe 2012.

Anyway, there were some pics of the the engine bay and some parts, and i remember one of the plastic parts had, on the reverse, (something like)

Megane RS 250, 265, 275

And that was back in 2011 / 12?!

So i feel the route of the previous Megane was mapped right at the very beginning and they like...steadily released them over the next 5 years ish.

Further into 2018 and black alloys still pervade.....I was hoping this ugliness would be withdrawn... most fads of this kind don't last this long... maybe Summer will bring about some fresh/original thinking...

Megane R.S - current Hot Hatch King imo.

Not quicker based on what measure? Stupid unreliable 0-62mph times?

Standing starts undersell FWD cars because they have off-the-line traction problems. Doesn’t matter how much power you give a FWD hatch, you’ll struggle to get past 6 seconds 0-62mph. Compare the (much better benchmark) 3rd gear 50-80mph times and you will have a meaningful benchmark.

You got black Fuchs on Porsches decades ago.

Better than the horrendous diamond cut alloys on the nob-cup model. I absolutely hate the current crop of diamond cut wheels, including the ones on my Clio Trophy. I'd much prefer black wheels.

I'm glad the new Megane has come out well so far. I loved my 250 Cup and this will likely be the car that replaces my Clio next year.

ok...completely black....
The kind of alloy that has no chrome dish/lip. The kind of wheel that has been designed but by virtue of being painted black renders the design invisible and pointless... that kind of black alloy wheel.

Hmm diamond cut...a nice finish but not on a part of the car so regularly damaged....much like nasty nasty black ones ...

Painted wheels are so easy to refinish though, especially black.

I made the same point on the MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works thread. The black (and diamond cut) wheel thing is just bizarre.
Even on this thread, look at the image with the Cup and non-Cup next to each other. I think the non-Cup are 18s yet they noticeably fill the arches much better and, you can actually see the wheel design as the light falls on silver. The Cup car looks like it's been torched!

Diamond cut I almost understand as presumably they are targeting the fashion-conscious demographic, so I don't need to be concerned about that. But when Renaultsport, Lotus, Porsche etc. start doing it, I don't like it, not least because it means that if I'm looking for a car, I have to factor in new wheels or a refurb.

I think it’s true that the 250’s put out more than stated. It’s not a myth.

Certainly the press cars did! I’ve driven one or two over the years and there’s nothing in it with the 250 265 275 etc.

The first 250 I drove was putting out a lot more than that.

I have a feeling that this new one - when I get a chance to drive it - is going to be sodding brilliant.

I might buy a cup version of the old car soon.
I don’t know if I could buy any other car in which I could, given the sad intrusion of reality, actually go any faster. It’s an absolute masterpiece, the old car.

I think the other way. I prefer the wheels on the non-Cup model as you can actually see what shape they are (a bit)

All black wheels can look good...but it's often difficult to see what style they are. But again if you aren't too concerned with how a wheel looks...it not a problem.
