A late post to say I had a 2.5 v6 auto sport about 4 years ago. It looked nice in black with black leather, but was very slow, the transfer box failed around 60k costing over £1k to fix, the headlights were terrible and I got about 20mpg at best. Bought for £6k and traded for £1.5k under 2 years later, the bottom having completely dropped out of the market for them.
If you’re going to buy an x type, and you do get a lot of car for the money, get a 3 litre or a diesel.
I went back to a Mazda Xedos 9, but sadly it died after a year. Now have a 61 reg C Class, which is everything I’d hoped the Jag would be,

I’ve read on here sill rust wasn’t an issue from 2004 onwards. Can anyone here confirm any rust horror stories on the 2004 onwards model? I quite fancy a 2.5 or 3.0 V6 Sport Estate, and for <£2500 there seems to be plenty of choice.

Corrosion of the sills was evident on a family member's 04 plated estate, patches required to the rear 1/3 of the sills on both sides circa 2 years ago. Hope that helps.

They made some internal improvements so they're not quite as much of a water trap, but they certainly still rot badly.

Well for what it’s worth, my 3.0 2005 has just been through an MOT and I had a good peer at this sills while up on the ramp.
Spotless.

70k miles and clearly well looked after by previous owners.
