the closest thing to a race car you can get as a road car. As a car, this is gonna be more fun every day than the GT2RS. Unfortunately neither will be used properly
Not sure how accurate that is. here is at least one GT2RS that is going to be raced by it's owner: https://youtu.be/BF3VlFgHJrEAs much as I am aPorsche fan, even I thought this was a picture of a green GT2RS when I first saw it on FB. Wasn't until I actually read the PH article title that I realised I'd missed the finer details.
Porsche are getting like Lotus with these constant new versions and special editions, easy to lose track.
Even if you are lucky enough to secure one, its superseded within a couple of months it seems.
In fact, I am fast losing interest in modern cars (as old as that makes me sound) they are just becoming a bit of a blur!

Not really, the Porsche update cycle is very methodical:Even if you are lucky enough to secure one, its superseded within a couple of months it seems.

1) Base model Carrera/Carrera S comes out (e.g. 991.1)
2) Around a year later the Turbo/Turbo S comes out
3) Then GT3
4) Then GT3 RS
5) Then GT2 RS (if they do one)
6) Then updated facelift base model Carrera/Carrera S comes out (e.g. 991.2)
7) The updated versions of the "hot ones" come out a quicker
8) Cycle then repeats

Who cares? More rubbish journalism. Another impossible to get car. Pointless even talking about it.
You're right. Let's just fill up the pages of a car forum with details of the new Toyota Aygo or 320d. Residuals / value aside I'd rather spend £100K on a well specced 991 Carrera T for the road and use the change on a Caterham for track fun.

I was referring mainly to the 7th point you made but all the above comes around quicker each time. Also, throw in the 911T, the GTS and other special editions like the R that come and go that you didnt mention1) Base model Carrera/Carrera S comes out (e.g. 991.1)

Had a 996 GT3CS;
was it more fun on road than my 991 GT3 ?
yes and no.
yes, it was analogue - you really had to be on top of it all the time to get the most out of it on roads.
no; the 991 never fails to put a smile on my face, even on the M25 ! Its much more of a rounded, capable tool than the 996.
Driven both on track, and the differences / similarities are just amplified.
Cant answer which one id have one the other.
guess that means I'll have to find another 996GT3 CS to go alongside my 991 GT3

On two occasions I can vividly remember being passed by a 991RS like I was standing still-once at Spa and once at the 'ring. And not just flying past on the straight-I mean like 3 corners and they were gone.
They are seriously fking fast machines.
I'm not convinced they were having any more fun than us and they certainly didn't look at good but my god were they shifting.
I did not order this one as it’s too close to my current 991RS. I would not pay a premium anyway , though value is subjective. Looks like a nice upgrade and a very good car. Next for me is 992RS whenever it shows up.
Having two of same Gen was a mistake so I sold one of the 997s, something I rarely do. The 992 will be my final RS I think. Too old after that and three is more than enough.
Would have liked a 993RS but prices are beyond my comfort zone.
I am not at all fixed on manual and the GT3 is there for those who prefer. My old 7.1 is quite an analogue car and I still enjoy the heavy clutch and rattling Mezger. However for city driving I will always prefer the
PDK. True for a hard track day too. Will turn in PH card now
