Announcing a car after pre-emptively selling them all is a slap in the face to the regular customers.
Are the 500 they sold them too not regular customers then? If not, how do you know this? In the old days the company owner had a Rolodex if suitable past and future clients through which to forward sell the one offs. Today it is the same just smarter. It is pretty easy to track who owns each of your products, even those who bought used thanks to the joys of manufacturer servicing. From there it is actually pretty easy to ascertain relatively accurate wealth profiles of each and every individual. On top of that you can garner information in the traditional way through your dealer and servicing network. And today, on top of this, there are middlemen/brokers who consumers will use to get an offer to purchase.
Maclaren of all entities learned very directly of the dangers of not contractually pre-selling a run with the F1. And Jaguar learned a hard lesson with regards to contracts and deposits. These lessons have made the sale of allocations into a fine art today and vital not just for retaining existing customers but also in enticing new customers away from competitors.

Perhaps you could mention the most beautiful supercar and most iconic supercar, the Miura and the Countach, but that spoils your argument doesn't it.
More importantly don't let Yipper derail the thread.
Whilst I agree with your sentiments it is interesting that you’re going back over 30 years to find some pretty Lambo’s - it’s a very different company now.More importantly don't let Yipper derail the thread.
I was just trying to highlight the idiocy of Yippers comments but as you say we shouldn’ let him derail another thread with his trolling nonsense.

McLaren could take a dump, wrap it in tinfoil, cover it in post-kebab vomit and market it as a £2,000,000 supercar and rich Chinese and Arab clients would still snatch it up.
That would lead me to believe they must be doing something right so then ??Edited by epom on Thursday 8th February 09:47

What a hound dog of a car. Good thing hardly any of the owners will ever drive them. The humiliation of being laughed at on the streets of Knightsbridge would be too much I’m sure.
Doubt it to be honest. The car spotter types will still be orgasmic at the sight of one of them doing the park lane/kings road grand prix...j90gta said:

Don't Aston Martin, Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghini do exactly the same????Davey S2 said:

720s in drag confirmed.
When did you drive it?Do you really think McLaren would just bring out a car which has virtually the same performance but looks a bit different to a 'regular' £225K production model and try to charge £750K for it?
The Evo piece is a good geek out. Goes in to good detail re how much it isn’t a 720S. It doesn’t even have the same tub or doors, rear structure is all new... it’s all there for those who think they know.
