Of all the cars I have ever driven this was the greatest. Glad you actually use it. I see too many of them with not much more than delivery mileage. If I had this in my garage I would keep it forever also.

Bought this in 2000. Restored it and got it on the road in 2008 and i dont expect to see another name in the log-book.

if i was ever in the position to own a Carrera GT, i dont think i'd ever get rid of it either. can count on one hand the number of cars with a naturally aspirated V10 engine and a manual gearbox.

anywho... in answer to the question, no. i've got an old 330d which i'll probably keep until the scrapper in the sky takes it, and a 986 boxster which i'll be swapping for a 987 boxster when spring comes.

After spending an enjoyable half hour looking back through this thread, thought I would lower the tone and post a pic of the worst S class ever that I'll be keeping until I'm not allowed to drive it anymore.
Had so many memorable long distance journeys in this across Europe, and can't think what I would replace it with.

A heartwarming thread.

To some it’s all about the latest and greatest.
But to others , they get attached to particular cars and can’t see a better alternative.

I’m certainly in the latter category.

I've always been after the latest and greatest but I think we have passed peak car (for me) now?? Picked up the C63 a couple of years ago and for the first time I am not looking for the next car.

I will probably own another car but it will be another car, not a replacement. I will happily keep it forever and when we aren't allowed to drive on the roads with ICE I will start it once a week just to hear the noise and remember how cars used to be........... sad old g*t.

This unexceptional old mini that turns 60 years old later this year. Not a Cooper or S, just a humble 850cc Morris Mini Minor. As far removed from most of the standard PH fodder as you could get. Owned it 11 years now after a series of younger classic minis, a Mk1 was always what I wanted. On a sunny weekend B road cruise there is nothing like it.

These two won't belong to anyone else while I'm still kicking.

2003 Evo 8, much modified. Evo 9 suspension and Evo 9 Mivec VVT head, turbo and ECU running on a home built engine wiring harness. Owned from 8 months old and the cause of multiple wallet remaps over the years.

1988 Mk1 MR2 Tbar, 7 years in with it, spent what I paid for it now getting it the way it should be. 6 speed box the only mod of note. Supposedly geared for 144 mph now! Or instant death when attempted, given how light the front end is at 125!

A couple of weeks ago, I sold a Mercedes SL that I'd had for nearly ten years, by far the longest time I'd owned any car. I never particularly wanted one, but bought one and, as time passed and money was spent on it, it became an old friend that I would have happily kept indefinitely. But letting it go was easy. This is different

I got this last year, forty years after first seeing pictures of one in a book about Ferraris. At the age of five or six, I wasn't interested in the red sportscars, I was captivated by this. I could have bought one years ago when they were worth less than half what they are today, but for no particular reason, it just stayed in the back of my mind. Increasingly, whenever I saw a photo of one - because they are hardly ever seen in the metal - I found myself wondering why I didn't get one. Now, if ceasing to hanker after any other car is a sign that you've finally got what you wanted all along, then I guess this is a keeper. It's absolutely fking epic.

Great topic, some lovely cars and stories.

I never want to get rid of any of them. The current fleet should stay and I just add to it. Sadly the Z4m is to go to fund renovation works frown

Fun track car

Fast summers car (50k in my ownership all over Europe)

Sunday driver (whos kidding, B road blast! [once I'm done with it])

Maybe - I bought my Alfa Romeo RZ in January 1998, 20 years ago now. It wasn’t a keeper at the time.

There have been a few of these threads over the years, it’d be great to see how many of the “keepers” have been kept. Always curious about the newer cars in particular - whether they will retain the same allure when the newer, faster, shinier successor comes out. Saying that, mine was only three or four years old when I bought it.
25 years ago now, still enjoying it.
