I would like one for every day. They're very relaxing to drive.

I’d like to say ‘never but no doubt it’s coming at some point,

There is nothing at all desirable, to me, about an electric car. I know many will disagree but I don’t see how anyone who loves cars/motorcycles, whatever, can possibly want an electric one.

If it was a case of somone needing to save money and an electric car cost £2k per year, all in, to own and run as opposed to £6k to run something else I could understand wanting/having one.

Two years ago.
Go thrash a Leaf for ten minutes - it's actually good fun in an urban environment compared to the diesel/petrol mindless dross it competes with. Surprisingly stable at motorway speeds too, but the range, the range, the range etc.
Kick it's arse from stone cold with no worries, instant heater, instant standing start, light and quiet, obviously it's no substitute for something interesting but as a pig ugly alternative to the standard white goods options it's pretty good.
When the 3 year rental is up on this we are aiming at sticking with 'lectric smile

I had the perfect chance this month when i sat down to sort out my next city car. 95% of my driving is in London. I could easily have a home charging point and most of my journeys are less than 10 miles. It's a no brainer, it really is.

So, I opted for a Abarth 595 Tourismo.

hehe

i love these threads where people say "i'll never own an EV, they are TOO BORING" and then you check out their profile garage and find their current car is a diesel polo or similar. Rock n roll baby, rock n roll!

I'm at a halfway house with the Ampera for now. Very much enjoy driving on Electric for majority of my personal use.

Probably pick up a second hand Leaf60 in a few years time as either my commuter or as the Mrs daily.

Not happening.

Just can't get enthusiastic over them. Linear power, no gears, no sound (apart from tyres and that horrible whine sound they make).

Will my wife own one? Most likely - but I'll have my ICE car to enjoy when I feel like a weekend drive.

I can only afford a small car, so my budget of 12k ish isn’t going to get me in a new electric car anytime soon. It would also have to fun to chuck around like my current Up is. Edited to say that it would need to be as reliable as my Up has been too!

My point exactly. Compare an EV to the dull as ditchwater hatchbacks it's competing against - electric wins hands down unless you regularly practice the self-flagellation that is 1 litre hatchback long distance motorway travel.

It's all down to 2nd hand value for me. £30K gets me a massive diesel Merc GL with 100K miles left before I need to concern myself over its age/use.

When I can get something like a Model X for £30K, be certain it'll last another 100K miles, AND give me *some* return when I come to sell it on, then I'll be ready.

I could already live with the range and use-case, and I quite like the idea of cheap quiet motoring.

Done it already and loving it (i3).

It makes a good 2 car combo alongside our xc60.

Only problem right now is the new models (Leaf, ZOE R90) are pretty overpriced compared to their ICE equivalents (Pulsar/Clio)

ISTR it’s something like, at similar trim levels
Leaf £23k
Pulsar £16k
(Acenta)

ZOE £16k including battery
Clio £11k
(Dynamique Nav)

The lack of fuel cost and £4500 grant should be the carrots to drive uptake, not a chance for the manufacturer to inflate prices

When Hydrogen filling Station infrastructure is up to the job then I propose to get a FCEV non of this waiting 8 weeks while you shrivel up and die at a filling station waiting for your hybrid to trickle charge

Scrolling through this thread & saw your user name, thought to myself, don't think he'll be a fan of EV's!
I admit, they don't do much for me & I have no intention of ending up in one myself. But, perhaps in a few years they'll be more appealing & usable range-wise.

Got three cars.

Turbo’d mx5 for the weekend. Diesel C30 for the work commute and business mileage and a hybrid Yaris for home and popping to shops and the dogs. If we had a way of charging an electric car I would have one now, possibly for the commute or to replace the little Yaris.

For daily driving and being dirt cheap to run it’s brilliant. Gets 60-70mpg and does 95% city driving
