So how fast can you go for £2k. Just curious.

I wonder how costly an S Type R is to run...
Good luck finding one for £2K! If you do, let me know where it is. smile
I turned one down a couple of years ago at £2k - it was a 150k miler up for £3k ish, but I walked away as it had quite a few bills coming up (brakes all round, tyres, service) and just generally needed a lot of love. The seller was desperate to get rid as his new car was coming and called to ask if I'd take it at £2k - often wonder if I should've taken a punt!

Outside of a motorbike this is my shortlist:

Leon Cupra R

Mondeo ST220

Vectra VXR (Maybe?)

Impreza 2000 Turbo

A flight (700mph)

E46 330i, I had 2 autos that cost under 2 grand are very quick, I pulled away from my friends TT 225 twice on a slip road race and kept up with many MK7 GTI’s. Auto’s 330i’s have a 7 sec 0-60 time but 30mph kickdowns take you to illegal speeds very easily!

Only problem with those cars is that you get V8 mpg figures with a straight 6, probably worse, I never saw over 22 mpg around town with my driving however my brief ownership with a rusty CLK430 showed me more than 25 a few times.

E46 330i probably the best all rounder. Not sure you can get a manual one for under 2 grand any more but auto’s are plenty quick enough

Around the twisters and in a straight line, EP3 Type R.

Both do 150 with ease

What's the criteria for fast ?

0-60

Top speed

If handling counts a Clio 1-2 or civic r type would get you round a track quicker and only a second or 2 slower to 60 than a aero
I was gonna say that.

Someone posted a Saab Aero on page 1 i think but the 0-60 on that was only 7.8, accordingly to AT. Granted it was an automatic an may not be accurate but still.

I suppose the Aero would be much quicker in gear though.
Isn't a manual aero 6.9 seconds to 60 ?

The saabs trump card though is it's acceleration in 3rd gear on a long straight road my clio cup would of been left floundering by my saab , however on a track i think the cup could of been quicker .
The one posted a few pages back was an automatic, so that's the reason why it's a bit slower. Not sure how accurate AT's figures are though.
