I did look at these at one point but glad i went for the D5 SE instead, Got a bargain 2006 with 1 owner from new for £1750 on 72k miles, such a comfy car the S60 and its a hefty old lump so the 300lb/ft from the diesel engine suits it very well and actually gives a suprisingly nice 5 pot noise aswell. Handling wise its a bit of a boat and theres 0 feedback through the wheel so i'm not sure how well the R version would compare to other sports cars in that regard.

It’s remarkable how much sharper the R felt than the other models, I had one and us3d to get standard ones as dealer courtesy cars - all good but handling, responsiveness, brakes etc all sharper on the R

Another thing I noticed was that it failed it's MoT in February 2016 on the basis of 2 worn tyres, that may well imply other basic maintenance has been skimped on.
I wouldn't read too much into that. Anyone who's owned a P2 platform Volvo will tell you their appetite for front tyres.

I had an S60 D5 that I used for an annual mileage of 25k. Every year, I'd have to buy 3 new sets of front tyres, despite most of my driving being DC and motorway. As a result, I often had advisories for front tyre wear even though they were only 3 months old.

Curious advert.

I wouldn't but if viewed as a parts car to keep a good one going, it might be a steal. (£1000 a headlight, you say? Better to have a couple of distress, some wheels that can be refurbished and sold on...)

Slightly off topic but I'm intrigued by the recent trend to import low mileage examples from Japan. An S60R would be tempting for a while, and if I were tempted then that's where I'd put my money.

I would love to know some of the anecdotes that explain how various parts of this car got damaged, purely for my amusement. As others have said, what events led to the instrument binnacle plastic being cracked? I imagine it'd make for a more interesting story than some soap operas. That said, cars that have led an interesting life are not good cars to buy and run...

I hope whoever bought it does well out of breaking it.

I have to say that I think this weeks SOTW is the very definition of shed! High mileage, possibly knackered, but offering a ton of pace and gadgets for the money and very much a leftfield choice. I prefer it to the bland and predictable Leon from last week TBH. Not saying I would buy it, but an interesting choice nonetheless.

When these were new, I was driven around the Millbrook wet handling circuit at full chat by a crazy Danish racing driver, on a volvo customer day. The grip was fking amazing and the driver showed me that the car’s 4wd system and electronics were doing all the work keeping us on the grey stuff. He was only able to invoke sliding by using the handbrake.

It was a fantastic and neck breaking experience. smile

Favourite company car ever from 2004 to 2007. Better in manual form as this shed is, drove one in ‘16 and would still love one as a daily driver. Interesting that this has done 20k between MOTs so perhaps not as borked as it looks...

Basket case of a car. I’m sure someone here will pick it up!

One thing to remember with these cars is that a lot of the components have to be coded to the car.

This means that to fix things (like the ABS unit or the throttle position sensor) you can’t just buy the part and fit it yourself.

Also, the auto boxes on these cars are notorious for going wrong. If you are thinking of buying a car with the Asin Warner something or other box in it, make sure it is fully warmed up and then try a few 2-3-4 shifts up a hill. If it flares or slams into gear, run away...and no, a fluid flush won’t fix this either. It’s shagged.

This looks like a cracking shed and definitely one of the more interesting examples of shed. Has pace and is a bargain, but the mileage and lack of MOT is exactly what makes this shed interesting. It's one of those cars that most of us probably wouldn't have the balls to go for, but could potentially reward/ruin those that do.

More like this please!

Actually i believe the fastest shed was my old Saab 9000 Aero that was on here a few years back
P109 WGT.
She was absolutely mint, and Maptun tuned to 360bhp.
70 to 100mph in 3rd gear was just under 4 seconds. It was a real weapon.

I believe someone said it was sold...shame, I guess we’ll never know the true level of borkedness.

I’d have had a look at that price, for the lols at least and with the cash in my wallet just in case...I suspect it would remain in my wallet when the true horror was discovered!

Looking at others currently for sale the cheapest advertised is more than £5k, clearly this was a spares repairs car at this price, bargain for someone who knows what they are doing to either brake for spares or fix and sell (or run).
