RE: Subaru WRX STI Final Edition: POTW
Discussion
The demise of the Scooby is so sad. A Deep Blue Mica Impreza Turbo was my first fast car, an absolute blast down a back road.....even better when Prodrive added the performance pack.
I recently had the pleasure of driving the final version, cracking car and, as mentioned, different to everything else on the road. Huge grip and amazing traction....too many folk write them off without experiencing them.

I recall the shockwaves when they first came out in the early 90's, truly ground breaking 'everyday' performance.
Subaru's of old seemed much better, as an example the Liberty these days is a horrendous mess whereas a 2005-2009 estate model still looks great.
I wonder what happened at the management/designer level around 2005?
Lack of investment, talent and foresight to try a new direction and a strategic focus on the 'plain jane' US market is killing this brand.
Yes, the Impreza STI is a great car, but sadly it's now swamped by loads of other 'great' cars. Some even better.
Imagine if Subaru had been bold and developed a performance 4wd Hybrid STI, mating the flat four to a high performance electric engine and battery pack. And repeated their earlier trick by stealing the lead on all the other manufacturers by bringing high power hybrid performance to all the masses (oh, and rejoining some form of motorsport).
But want to know what the STI Engineering Team has been up to recently?
Well, the new Levorg STI has the following performance upgrades.....Large STI Exhaust Tips..... yep that's it.

PS Great Photo btw...

Hardcore models.. lets make it appeal to the masses.
Sadly, they do little for me these days which I find really disappointing.
I have one and I can tell you its hardcore, its certainly not soft like a golf R.Sadly, they do little for me these days which I find really disappointing.
The ride is rock hard. and the turbo lag is still very 90's. The fuel economy is poor too compared to modern cars.
The cornering at speed in any weather is in another league to all the 5 previous Subaru's I have owned. Unbelievable.
Get one while you still can

I do not understand some car manufacturers. They have a model that sells, possibly based on its competition history, and then they drop it from their range. If nothing else it can be a halo car, that will appeal to enthusiast drivers, to draw people into their showrooms to sell other models. How often do you see new Subaru cars on the Uk roads today ?
I had an '03 Forester with Prodrive conversion. When I came to change it there was no longer a comparable model in the range so I moved to Audi.
Same with the Lancia integrale. I ran a Lancia dealership years ago and the integrale would pull buyers into the showroom to look at it and they'd buy a lesser model for the kudos of having a derivative of this successful rally car.
Audi have made a success of the quattro brand by not letting it disappear, Subaru should have an technically modern Impreza 4x4 in their model ranges for years to come, likewise Lancia trying to make their brand a luxury brand is ridiculous when they should be turning out up to date Deltas with an integrale 4x4 the top of the range.
Manufacturers should look at the Renault Megane range and look to equal or better it. Then they'd have a successful model range.
