Worst design mis-steps

Design icon..
facelifted design icon...
errrr.... still a design icon
ummm... am I doing this right? Still a design icon
Arggghhh! It's all gone horribly wrong! Bloated bonnet, prolapsed windscreen and vulgar modern McPherson struts. Whatever next, they'll be watercooling the damned things next
And they had the nerve to call it a Super Beetle
Oh, for fks sake

Just seen the new polo, and boy, what an overdesigned, flabby mess vw have created.
Compared to the old one, it's a huge step back:
Clean and smart.
This got me thinking, which car makers made the worst looking face lift or new model?
Controversial point to start: the mk2 multipla was a horribly dull car compared to the mk1... A real cop out.
On my phone these look the same ?Compared to the old one, it's a huge step back:

People have been cleverly pointing out that the new mini is bigger than the original for 17 years now! That’s half my lifetime!
The problem you've missed is that the Mini is as bigger than other hatchbacks. The original Mini was developed by BMC to be simple, have 80% of the floor space dedicated to the cabin and to be small for UK roads... hence they called it a Mini, not a F**king Great Big Ugly Munter (the name badge would have been wider than the car). The Mini was designed to be small and practical, modern Maxi's are anything but.

I don't get the hate for the New TVR. The Sagaris looked great, there are plenty of older ones that look a bit st in comparison.
I don't get the hate for the new TVR either - owned 3 myself and because it's a TVR, I like it (although I expect it won't be as entertaining nor as rapid as they were - the Griff 500 and Cerbera were insane) . But I was commenting on how the guy compared a Sagaris with a new Griff, not a Griff with a new Griff.I think the Civic FN looked great and still does. Inside and out.
Had one for a while (1.8 EX) and i didn't fully get on with it (lacklustre engine, mediocre refinement or harsh ride, stupidly thin paint)...but it was a great looking inside and out car, with HUGE space inside and in boot considering the size of it. Very cleverly designed car IMO.
The model that follwed it just didn't look right. It looked like they tried to keep the previous one but bloated it out, not nice at all.

And let's not forget
Mini is a brand not an adjective, get over it.eg MINI 3 door - Length 3,821mm Width 1,727mm Height 1,414mm
Peugeot 108 5 door 3,475 x 1,615 x 1,460 mm (100kg lighter in base spec)
VW Up 3,600 x 1,641-1,645 x 1,478-1,504 mm (200kg lighter)
What it needed to do was be different, but with nods to the original design, be iconic and appealing to the consumer, which obviously it was I would say the new mini is the exact opposite of a design mis-step

I know if only they had designed it different and smaller it would have been a winner...

The first new mini certainly wasn't a mis-step. Every new model and variant since has been massive mis-steps.What it needed to do was be different, but with nods to the original design, be iconic and appealing to the consumer, which obviously it was I would say the new mini is the exact opposite of a design mis-step

But they didn't though. You jumped the EM & FD models of Civic, so a little unfair on your part.Plug Life said:

More a design choice but the Audi indicators that are the running orange light along the LED strip, like some low rent travelling shows. It's so fking tacky, does it come with a plastic light up singing Santa to stick in the window of the car round Christmas?
Audi are the definition of money can't buy class
It's tacky but more conspicuous than simple blinking which I guess is good for an indicator.Audi are the definition of money can't buy class

...stolen from Tatra by Prof. Porsche for Adolfie...
Yep. Also stolen from several other designers who contributed to the evolution at NSU amongst others as well as the Tatra. Hitler made him do it
Anyway, your point being....? I never said "solus Porsche design classic"
