Worst design mis-steps

MINIs
R50 - is tiny; basically two +1 seater if adult is driving. Design classic as much as the original. So many neat details evoking the original Mini. There is not a bad angle the R50
R56 - not as crisp, bit blander and cheaper looking. Midlife refresh sharpened a little.
Current gen - surprised these around for nearly four years, looks still haven’t fully grown on me. Proportions all wrong, never look right on larger wheels and fussy front end of the Cooper S. Lastly it really is now polo/golf size depending on doors.

I’ve been arguing with a bloke on Facebook group that the 360 is bit naff and bloated vs every car before and after it. At the time I loved it but it hasn’t aged well, the 458 is so much lither.Edited by shost on Saturday 24th February 07:38

Whenever I see a 360 I always think of the Peugeot 406 coupe.
You're not the only one, someone made a 360 replica kit based on the 406 coupe because apparently a number of key dimensions are the same on both cars.Personally I think the 406 coupe is the better looking car.

When Porsche changed from the 993:-

to the 996:-

Luckily (to my eyes at least) every 911 since the 996 has got better looking
I accept that the 3.4 996 wasn't well received but from what I recall, a lot of the disparaging comments related to its similarity to the Boxster - they were practically identical from the front. To my mind, the facelifted 3.6 with the lights like the Turbo you've posted above was a reaction to this and an ill-judged attempt to distinguish the 911 from the Boxster. I've never liked the 3.6 911 but I think the 3.4 has aged well and looks great.

Very clean, simple design. Wish I hadn't sold mine now!
Every time I see a 996 (especially in GT3 form) these days I can't help but notice how compact, smooth and elegant they look compared to the newer models.

I've always thought the issue with the 996 design was mostly that it was too big a leap in one go. If you parked up a row of 911s in order 993-997-991-996 it would look a more natural progression of design.

I get the 993 to 997 bit, and agree, but the 991 to 996? I don't see that at all.Every time I see a 996 (especially in GT3 form) these days I can't help but notice how compact, smooth and elegant they look compared to the newer models.

And how st they look next to a 993.Edited by GravelBen on Saturday 24th February 08:08
However, with prices of the 993 getting silly, the 996 apparently is where to sink you money now. Cheap as chips and prices only going in one direction.
