I always think this is a batst crazy opinion. Why isn't there an expensive hatchback? You can spend 10 grand or 250 grand on a saloon, you can spend 20 grand or hallf a mill on a 2 seater sports car, but with hatchbacks - the most practical shape of car - no. Anything over 40 grand is utter madness apparently. And yet people can't seem to spot their own madness.
Panamera

Not that hard to spec one of these up to £150k

RS7

£100k without troubling the option list that much

A size down then it’s easy to drop 50k plus on an A45 or RS3.

I’m sure there are other examples.

Why does it have to be so huuuuuge?

Something like this that was in the same ballpark size wise as a Scirocco or something would be the world's most desirable everyday car. When it's this magnitude it's just not usable enough especially in Lilliputian Britain.
Yes let's put a 6.3 V12, and two transmissions inside a Scirocco footprint....
Sounds like fun biggrin

If a bit tricky...
Would probably work better in a Yeti footprint.................

Sorry, that play on words was abominable.
Snow joking.

I can see your point.

But would you spend say £120k on a car the same size as a hatch back?
People spend 10 times that on a diamond, or a painting. I fail to see what size has to do with price.

That said, I'm not a fan of this at all. I think it looks like crap, and I'd much rather buy something lighter.

I suspect you’re not the target market wink

I’d imagine most FF owners have access to several other vehicles.

That car is 200k basic and nearer 250k specced, the idea that people would spend 1/4 million on a small hatch is ridiculous.

GTR is surely not much diff to your R32? c.10cm in the width and roughly the same length? Not really much different - unless you thought the R32 was too big of course! Get one bought. wink
The difference is not too far off 6 inches wider. Where I'm at an R32 was already a bit of a squeeze as my milieu is high speed goat tracks. An extra 5-6 inches crosses into the 'no way I'm going down there' category.

That's a shame, dude - 74.6" vs 69.1" is actually a reasonable chunk. I was rounding down to 10cm. biggrin Was really just being a devil on your shoulder and trying to make you rethink the purchase. Ha ha.

My CGTS was c.71" wide and I never noticed the width being a problem - it was the long doors that were a problem in parking spaces. On more than one occasion I got back to my car to find that I couldn't get in because of the car parked next to me. They were perfectly 'in their line', but just close enough to mean that the door (and it's thickness) gave me a 1" gap to try and fit in. Good job I grew up watching The Dukes of Hazard...

Whilst I appreciate there’re a whole host of differences between them, is this the first time Ferrari have had two cars of the same line/model with entirely different engines one sale at the same time?
“And what engine would sir want in his GTC? V12 or V8?”

Great article, clearly an incredible car to the average PHer but the summary is surprising or perhaps disappointing, which essentially seems to be 'amazing car, equal to the V12 but not as good as the V12 because it's a V8'. Surely that it can do this deserves an accolade?

It seems to me that the writer is looking for an excuse to put a highly capable car down for no real reason.

Going by the article and how it emphasises the name GTC4 with a T signifies the V8T engine I imagine the (snobby or not) buyer would already note this with the salesman and the question really would be what options Sir would like to tick in the list..?

On a different note,1800kgs is heavy but I didn't think it heavy for a car this size and engine. Most cars are bloated these days IMO but it seems CFRP still is reserved for the upper echelon cars.

Technically examples, but nobody thinks Panamera when you say hatch. And at the end of the day, the interior of your A3 or A class is the same as the 20 grand version. None of the above answer my question.

Why isn't someone making a posh hatch? Really posh. Starting at 100 grand posh. Impeccable build, fabulous engine, identical size and practicality to a golf. Why not? Same with 4x4s. You want a smaller SUV? Well that'll be a cheaper SUV, you'll not be getting the posh high quality version unless you buy the biggest one we make. Why? It's actually just stupid.

I'd love to have a high end proper golf/focus sized hatchback. Like really high end, S class/A8/7 style interior quality and finishings and a 500/600bhp straight 6 or V6 (V8 I expect would have packaging issues)

Don't get this style of Ferrari one bit.

But nice to finish reading a Ferrari review without having to have read most of it twice.

Exactly, it's a 600+HP 4WD 4-seater. Do people genuinely think Ferrari could have made it smaller if they wanted to? Ignoring the luxury interior and large engine and transmission there is also the requisite fuel tank, exhaust, radiator, brakes, wheels and suspension. Ferrari should be commended for the packaging.

Even if the oily bits could be squeezed into a smaller footprint to produce a hyper hot hatch the cost savings would be minimal. The labour and tooling costs would be near identical regardless of the size of the car and a few kilos less of aluminium in the bodywork @ approx. 4 quid / kilo won't bring the SP down to £100K.

The lack of build quality and attention to detail in these things is unforgiveable for something that costs £200k. Loose flimsy plastics, wonky badges, poor connectivity, lack of ergonomics etc make it very frustrating to live with. Not even the V12 sound can make up for it.

The F12 and 812 seem much better together.
