Can you still buy a crap car?
Discussion
Years ago, cars where crap, the majority I mean, they broke down loads, rusted away, could be stolen with a teaspoon by anyone with the iq of a baby, where generally slow. Had no crash protection etc. Yes you got airbags on a S class but a fiesta and it was the steering wheelz
These days cars rarely break down or rust, everything is pretty decently good at what it does.
THe middle of the road car, the Ford Focus, is everything you could need. Comfy, refined, loads of toys, many MPGS, doesn’t break down every 5 mins, you won’t die if you crash it at 5mph, it doesn’t steam up in the rain etc.
Yes some cars may be described as crap but that’s because we are spoilt. Like a Toyota aygo is crap compared to a E class, but 30 years ago a Ford Orion was crap and so was a e class.
So can you still get a crap car?

If you define crap as having a very high probability of failing to proceed, or rusting to bits within 5 years, or being actually dynamically dangerous (Morris Marina) then I don't think anything like that is sold in the UK.
If you just mean way off the pace of the competition in one or more critical areas then they certainly do. The Mitsubish Mirage, for example, is like something from the 80s and competing in a field of truly excellent cheap little city cars.

I like Peugeot’s they are decent looking cars, reliable now and the same goes for Vauxhall.
What’s actually crap about them? This isn’t about driving Dinamics or ergonomic issues
Young Shiv appears to have a hatred of Vauxhalls in all the threads I've seen him/her.What’s actually crap about them? This isn’t about driving Dinamics or ergonomic issues
But as the driver of a mighty "one and a quarter" Fesser beast we should respect their views.

If I drove a corsa of the same vintage I would be deeply distressed

Nothing wrong with a Corsa - it just needs to be the right one! If I drove a corsa of the same vintage I would be deeply distressed
My mother had 3 Fiestas, albeit a 1.1 and two 1.3s with the wheezy OHV engine they put in the original Ka.
I found a 1999 Corsa 1.4 CDi for my niece a few years ago and it's a great little car - 16 valve engine with fuel injection and 90 bhp in a biscuit box! But at least it does have ABS and a driver's airbag.
She still has it, even though it went past 80K miles last week.
A Fiesta may handle a bit better, but Fords of that era just feel a bit flimsy compared to Vauxhall equivalents IME.
