I preferred it to the F40 from day dot.

I hope this is what you want to hear but the f50 is vastly superior to the f40 in drive and sound .I think it looks better, sounds better and in my head, drives better.
It's a magnificent car , for driving (let's leave the looks alone) it's the best f car . The 288, 40,Enzo and la Ferrari are second class drivers cars in comparison if I'm honest with you .
The sound is incredibl , the input and control weights are perfect and the chassis and engine are a work of genius . You can drive it fast or like a rally car it's honestly one of the greatest drivers cars ever .

I'll just have to decline based on the small matter of the cost then!
I wish I could say something similar about the price but unfortunately (and I do believe it's unfortunate ) these cars are too expensive now . Mines the only one I've seen on track , out in the rain etc etc for years now There are many better looking cars, quite a few faster as well, but this is my absolute favorite car.
It hands down beats the F40 - easy, because V12 - , the F1 because of that open gate manual shifter (and the fact the F1 is even uglier), and the Carrera GT because of both.
An F12 or a Superfast might have a more powerful V12 but this is the Daddy, and it has thát manual!

How many miles on yours now Kevin?
Ever been tempted to part with it given you must have done 'rather' well on it? Not sure what you could replace it with though.
About 10K now Davey. and yes, it’s certainly appreciated in value since I bought it about 8 years ago. But things would have to change, dramatically, for the worse to contemplate selling it. Because you’ve put your finger on it- what would you have instead? I prefer the word ‘and’ myselfEver been tempted to part with it given you must have done 'rather' well on it? The F50 has really grown on me in the last few years...
I agree. I never liked it at all until the day I went to buy my F40 when I ended up completely mesmerised by a black F50 at Macari's for the best part of an hour. They must have thought I was a total weirdo. In the flesh the F50 is just perfect, yet on paper it looks awkward. I agree with some posters about the regular F40 looking a little sad and dated but I think the LM front clip, sans pop up lights, is a vast improvement.markcoznottz said:

Davide Cironi has a good video on the F50:

The F50 was one of the last analogue high-performance fair-weather runabouts. The other would be the Porsche Carrera GT but the F50 was more extreme. Open top, n/a engine, manual gearbox, and in case of the F50 no ASR and ABS (even though it has a trick suspension). Should have lightning fast responses to driver inputs. Would be interesting to know what it could do on modern tires and with carbon brakes.

Great video... and the commentary just makes me smile; it doesn't matter what he's saying!https://youtu.be/VBZZq7MWiT4

I think that’s one of the best looking cars ever made, that is the definition of a dream car, literally.....I’ve only seen one in the flesh once in my life on the A3 going towards Guildford and it’s a lot smaller than you think, wide yes but short and extremely low.
I’ve always had a thing for it, I don’t even know when it began as I was 2 years old when it come out but I used to procrastinate in school and look at them on autotrader, 450k for a grey one back in 2011 I think, painful to think, can quadruple your money in 7 years on a car. Imagine you’re fortunate enough (well more than fortunate) to buy a 90’s Italian super car for nearly half a million pounds, a dream car AND getting a 400% return (is that right) on the price 8 years later should you decide to sell it !!!!
I’d love to know what it drives like and What its actually like, I can’t imagine it would be pleasant or easy but I guess that’s the point, a full on balls deep red Italian poster wide drop top 90’s Ferrari.

I thought I was alone. I've always preferred it to the F40. I think the front headlights on the F40 make it look a bit sad/upset. But maybe that's just me!I think it looks better, sounds better and in my head, drives better.
I must have been about 8 or 9 so had absolutely no concept or understanding about all the performance chat- how the power was delivered or the feedback from the steering etc. All totally lost on me. But man did I just completey fall in love with the looks. I'd drink in every little detail and sit with tracing paper for hours. I had must have had about 8 pictures of the F50 on my walls, and one framed picture of a purple Diablo VT parked by a bridge that I bought at a car boot sale (sans glass, it was already smashed).
I know I'm in the very minor majority, but I love the styling from all angles - especially the front! I'd absolutely kill to see one in the flesh. It's my all-time favourite car.

Annoyingly if you just cover the headlights with your finger just leaving the indicators on show, the front end sorts itself out.
Totally agree. Was it designed with popups originally? They would have done the front end a world of good. Still a stunning car though. When I bought my 355, the bottom end of the F50 market was around £150k. If I could have afforded one back then, I'd have bought one. Painful to see them in the millions now :-(Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
